I remember spending the best part of every lunchtime for a month at work debating the difference between a rasin and a sultana. The addition of currents to the debate sent us over the edge. I don't want to get into biscuits and cakes, I got enough abuse on the Sin Bin when I said if darts was a sport then so was gardening.

darts isn't a sport

Of course it's a sport, and in evidence I quote the immortal Sid Waddell:
"Jocky Wilson. What an athlete!"

Of course darts is a sport!

On June 3rd, 2005 the application by The British Darts Organisation for darts to be recognised as a bona-fide sport was unanimously agreed by the sports councils of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

It also meets all criteria set in the definition below..

Some would say that it involves no physical exertion, but those that play long enough can strain their hypothenar muscles, and even develop 'dart thrower's elbow'. How's that for physical exertion! It has even been known for players to get out of breath walking to and from the oche.

Piano Smashing...now there's a sport!

"Four members of the Robin Hood Karate club Nottingham smashed a standard upright piano with bare hands and feet in 2 minute 53 seconds, all wreckage was passed through a nine inch hoop.

The current world record is held by a Scottish Bricklayer. In 1974 during the Kilsyth Civic Week held in Scotland - 20 year old local apprentice Peter Bell beat representatives from the Police, Fire Brigade and other competitors including World Champion boxer Joe Bugner by smashing a full-sized grand piano with a mallet, and passing it through a letterbox in 2 minutes and 7 seconds.

There was a time when it wasn't safe to admit in the pub that you had a piano at home on a bank holiday weekend.
