| Quote The Eagle="The Eagle"unfortunately i think that is unrealistic. Performances like that are not sustainable over a long period. They should be attainable on a weekly basis - that is what a squad is for, a team of this quality should be able to compete with the likes of Huddersfield any week of the year.
What I cannot understand is why they can get up for the GF yet play so appallingly in the CC?

| Quote ThePrinter="ThePrinter"God, 7 days in sport is a long time for some people's memories.
Reading through some of the posters and threads they've been quick to roll out the old and very tedious ''Leeds don't care about the regular season''.
Strange considering people were full of praise last week for the professional job we did going away to Saints, likewise.....
- Hudds were poor last week, good this one
- Cas put up a good fight this week, definately not this week
- Saints disappointing last week, very good this week
- Bradford very good last week, to unable to finish off 12 men
- Hull disappointing last week, very good this week
It happens, get over it.
But it seems to be spreading all over the league that if a team lose it MUST be because they know it doesn't matter because of the Playoffs, so explain other sporting events like......
2011/12 - Man Utd 1 - 6 Man City (this ultimately cost them the title)
2008 - Manly 40 - 0 Melbourne (in a GRAND FINAL match)
2012 - Rory McIlroy doesn't make the cut at one of the 4 Majors (US Open)
2010 - England win the Ashes by winning THREE tests with an innings to spare.
2007 - Even though they win Grand Slams in '05 & '08, Wales can't even get out of the group stage at the Rugby World Cup.
2013 - In a non-playoff league, Man City (already behind Man Utd by 9 points) put in a woeful performance to lose 3-1 to relegation contenders Southampton
2010 - Leeds 6 - 30 Warrington (CC FINAL)
All of these poor results even in 'critical' occasions show that bad results/performances happen in sport regardless of the importance. Seems to be more a lazy excuse from some RL fans to dismiss a defeat as 'not important' simply because of the stick they get from rival fans in defeat and to downplay the other team's good victory.'"

Yes, the coach and players did make it clear they were bothered and that they did wish to improve their regular season performances. The timing of their statements just happened to coincide with the flogging of season tickets. What a coincidence.

| Not sure why they would not want to win every game and finish higher up the league considering I would assume bonuses go up the higher they finish?

| As long as we have this ridiculous eight team play-off system then we can afford to put in poor performances, just like Friday night, safe in the knowledge that there is a big fat cushion we can fall into come season’s end.
I don’t for one minute think that we threw the game intentionally but this was not the same team that beat Saints the previous week and a million miles from the team that played in the WCC.

Unfortunately, the Rhinos brand appeals to many of those south-of-the-river types these days. No class whatsoever. I preferred it back in the day when they stayed on their own side of the river and supported Hunslet instead.

| GH was clearly unhappy with how the majority of the season went last year, as he had one eye on season-ticket sales for this year. I doubt he'll be too happy if this one goes the same way, even if we do win the GF. However, he's stuck in a bit of a quandary as the squad has continued to deliver trophies and its hard for him to intervene too directly, especially with senior players making adoring comments about McDermott.
I don't buy this 'thin squad' argument either. Are people seriously suggesting that the majority of the team is physically incapable of putting in a decent effort more than once every two weeks, especially early in the season? I can see Peacock and Leuluai having issues due to age , but if that's the case McDermott should rotate them. If they continue to put their hands up to play then its their responsibility to turn up, and McDermott's to 'rest' them if they look knackered.
Was Warrington's squad so much bigger than Leeds last year? They played just one game less than Leeds, won the CC and were runners up in the GF, and yet played at a pretty good level throughout the regular season as well. Their GF loss was certainly nothing to do with fatigue.

Aye I hate those that cross the river to watch rugby.........
