| Quote chapylad="chapylad"Not sure about Jimmy Lowes appointment or that of McDermott to be honest.
On the plus side we have two British guys on board. Both served under Tony Smith and both allegedly with potential.
[uOn the minus side neither have achieved a thing with London or Salford.[/u
Personally I would have preferred an up and coming assistant coach from Australia to bring a bit of flair to the side.
Can`t see either of our two providing that to be honest.
But like others have said time will tell and they will have my support at least for the new season.'"
Well neither side no matter who was in charge would have done much, and to bring Jimmys time at Salford as an example is a bit unfair. It's not as if he was the main man or even there long enough to make a constructive opinion on his skill.
He was however pap at the Wire, not afraid to blood the youngsters though.

| True Yed what you are saying.
I guess I am a little under whelmed by the appointment and felt we could do better.
I always felt McDermott would make a good coach and touted for him when Tony Smith left.
I am happy to support them as mentioned previously.
No doubt time will tell.
I actually think we are going through a bit of a transition at Leeds this season so it could be misleading anyway around their competencies.

| Lowes must be good, McNamara picked him as his assistant for England in the recent 4 Nations.

| In an area where there is no quota and no salary cap in play, where a (wealthy) team are permitted to assemble a backroom staff without compromise, where the best of their kind can achieve results that appear way beyond the apparent capabilities of the squad at their disposal...... am I wrong to feel underwhelmed with the coaching team currently being assembled at Headingley?

Big name appointments don't always bring success.

Perhaps the two-and-a-half brain-celled triumvirate of McDermott, Lowes and Adamson may turn out to be greater than the sum of their collective parts?

I think you're over estimating Adamson's intellect.

| What is going on at Headingley?
It makes no sense that Lowes and possibly Adamson are first choice replacements. I can only assume that the clear-out of coaching staff was in response to some kind of disciplinary incident, because replacing a successful line-up of McClennan, Cummins and Poching with McDermott, Lowes and Adamson is one hell of a risky way to manage a transition.
I'm not sure how any of the new individuals will be able to bring new tactics and coaching to improve our squad from last year. We didn't have to go for someone with NRL experience but the results at Wigan and Huddersfield suggest that that is the best way to do things. Maybe GH is trying to challenge this argument.
I'm prepared to wait and see and hope I'm wrong about this, but all in all the changes to the squad and coaching staff are a backward step IMO. In a more positive light this could be like the Daryl Powell appointment, which saw the nucleus of our current side slowly introduced in the 2002 and 2003 seasons. We've seen youth development slide and maybe a British set-up is needed to bring this back: but at what cost to the fortunes of the first team (see Bradford as a recent example).
