You had the chance to ask him anything you wanted but bricked it.

Spoken to him many times. He's none too bright.

What opinion has he given to you about the League leaders then?

Not spoken to him in months so wouldn't know.

End of day if a Team wins 27 games out of 27 and then 8 players get injured for a grand final by a team that finishes 8th having lost 15 games out of 27 who happen to have a full squad of players i never have understood it to be fair, guess when ive been brought up more on football i'm used to seeing the team that performs over the season should be champions and not a 1 off game

maybe they would. There are plenty of clubs in the bartercard cup that would hammer cas though.

Surely it only matters that the the rules are known before a ball is kicked at the start of the season?

Teams then plan their efforts to attain their goals.

It's true that a run of injuries at the wrong time can effect the outcome but those injuries could be the reason a team struggles to make the eight in the first place or you sneak into the eight on the last round (Bradford perhaps?)

It's not football, it's rugby league and it needs to generate an income to remain professional. The Grand Final series helps it survive.

The one thing that irks most about the isation of the end of season play-off system that existed long before superleague is the fact that someone somewhere decided that the league positions at the end of 26 or 27 rounds would not be the deciding factor as to where you "finished" in the minds of the media after the Grand Final process was over.

Fact is (and we've had this discussion over and over and over and over again), there is no officially published table that is a re-adjusted table of positions after the end of the regular rounds as to do so would be to hold the whole of the game in ridicule when a team with several points fewer then the rest could be placed at the top of this fictional "ladder".

I still challenge anyone to show me the official RFL "adjusted league table" for any previous season. icon_lol.gif

2005 is the best Example, Saints where head and shoulder above anyone until the play-offs when Terry Newton put Long and someone else out which ended there season, had Long and the other player been fit i'm pretty confident they would have won the grand final

well surely thats saints fault for not having a strong enough squad?

the league then playoff system allows us to reward teams for being consistant and also to test them in the big games aswell,

the league rewards consistancy the play offs quality

I thought it was Leeds who were head and shoulders above everyone else for most of that season.

Top of the table, with a huge points difference advantage for the majority of it before the game before the Challenge Cup Final messed them up.

St Helens didn't hit the front until round 25 by a point and Leeds had still monstored the competition when you look at the points difference.

Everyone knew the format before the season started though and that's the important bit to me.

If that's your best example can you find me another?

Hi, new poster here, I feel compelled to add my twopennorth to this thread.

I have to echo TVOC and McLaren Fields view, every team goes into the competition knowing the rules before the season starts. It looks to me like We (Leeds) have timed our late surge to perfection the last two seasons whereas our erstwhile scouse opposition have not.
Now messrs Wilkin and others would have you believe that if you are top after the regular rounds you should be crowned champions but if that was the case then surely Leeds would have aimed for that instead and thus possibly (if not probably) finished top over the skints. The facts are that over the season as a whole, (regular and playoffs) we performed better because we won the damn thing meaning our plan worked where others failed.

Sorry if that was a bit rambling but I do feel quite strongly about this, an if Saints or anyone else wins the Grand Final then I will acknowledge them as the rightful champions.
