Quote Fallon="Fallon"Just need to be careful here.
Hastings is good but if he doesn't want to be at Leeds I would be wary of trying to twist his arm with a load of cash. He sounds like one who could quickly get his head turned and he has made no secret of his desire to get back to the NRL.
As a club we need to rebuild and having players in the squad who are constantly agitating to move is not good, regardless of their talent.'"
I guess if he gets an offer to go back to NRL before his Salford contract ends, he can make that choice.
If we do sign him, I'm sure we'll have some protection in place. If Hastings really wants to put himself in the shop window for NRL going forward, he'll have to play well for us and I can live with that if he's doing a great job for 1-2 years.
Yes, ideally we want long-term solutions, but if Hastings was to get lured back, it would be because he was playing at or near 1st grade NRL standard. We benefit from the process. Any really good player can get tempted by NRL - Walker, Holroyd, some of the other younger boys too. We've lost Hall and Watkins to NRL over the past couple of years.
Gone are the days where a club like Leeds could expect to hold on to its best players for a whole career - in this market we'll struggle.
