| Fonua looks gone this year. At the end of last season he was one of the most powerful wingers around, massive yardage running the ball back. This year he seems far less effective.

| Hasn't stopped him playing most weeks. I'd say its far more that last year he was a bit new, this year teams are ready for him. He's also (even last year) probably the slowest winger in the NRL.

| OK so it's looking like this deal will happen IMO - Parcell out and Lui plus Lunt in. We're looking for another half as well, which indicates Myler and Tui will also be out sooner or later.
It's looking like we'll lose Ferres and JJB next year. Ablett if he doesn't recover from his injuries. Crosby if he doesn't take the field this year? Smith I'm not sure on.
We also have Mellor confirmed for 2020.
Is a new half back combination and a second row enough for 2020?
Cap allowing, I'd still like to see another dedicated prop to partner Ava in the starting side, with Oledski, Holroyd, Singleton and whoever else as rotation.
Hooker - not sure Johnson is ready for 2020 at SL level unless interchange. Funny one - maybe we will run with Dwyer and Johnson for next year.
You would imagine the first choice back row would be Ward, Mellor and Merrin but do we need a Zeb Taia?
We do have two of the best young second rows in the country in the Academy though.
Possibly questions over a wing spot as well but it's in the middle and edges I think our greatest issues lie.

He's looked okay this year I'd say, but he's somewhere between a prop and second row for me. I'm not sure if his contract runs until the end of 2020 anyway?

Go on then, we will take Fonua (the slowest back in the NRL), and you can keep Luke Briscoe and Handley.

Need 2x half backs another 2nd row and another prop for me at least. Then if enough cap room an improvement on the wings or a better no9

Mahe was never the quickest Brisbane, but boy he was box office, double cup winner, and a power house, with Ratu/Swift/Bureta/Fonua
We’re in a good spot with these boys.
A little like Hastings isn’t the quickest of halves, but he’s just a fabulous talent.

Rhinos want Hastings asap but hes still undecided. Also sounds like hes got reservations re our relegation plight.'"
Just need to be careful here.
Hastings is good but if he doesn't want to be at Leeds I would be wary of trying to twist his arm with a load of cash. He sounds like one who could quickly get his head turned and he has made no secret of his desire to get back to the NRL.
As a club we need to rebuild and having players in the squad who are constantly agitating to move is not good, regardless of their talent.

I guess if he gets an offer to go back to NRL before his Salford contract ends, he can make that choice.
If we do sign him, I'm sure we'll have some protection in place. If Hastings really wants to put himself in the shop window for NRL going forward, he'll have to play well for us and I can live with that if he's doing a great job for 1-2 years.
Yes, ideally we want long-term solutions, but if Hastings was to get lured back, it would be because he was playing at or near 1st grade NRL standard. We benefit from the process. Any really good player can get tempted by NRL - Walker, Holroyd, some of the other younger boys too. We've lost Hall and Watkins to NRL over the past couple of years.
Gone are the days where a club like Leeds could expect to hold on to its best players for a whole career - in this market we'll struggle.
