| Quote: bramleyrhino "Is this the start of Hetherington's "exit plan"? He's 64, could probably afford to spend more time on the golf course if that's how he wants to spend his time, he has basically overseen the stadium redevelopment and is starting to hand over responsibilities. Sinfield has been public before about not wanting a coaching job, so is he basically being mentored for Hetherington's?'"
I think that’s what this is. I can imagine Hetherington wanting Sinfield to have at least had experience coaching before moving up completely to CEO. This way it eases him into aspects of the CEO job with Hetherington still there to assist and gives him that experience at coaching.
As far as I’m concerned it’s a great move for the long term.

| People keep mentioning Cunningham, and they have in common that they were both great players and club legends, but Sir Kev has the finest rugby mind of his generation and that's what he's bringing to the table. There are few players in world rugby who could read a game as well as him and I don't say that lightly. On top of that you've got his ethic - he went from being a not great kicker to the best in Super League, he was, apparently, not fast enough to be a half back yet he ran the show against all the flash Harry's and brought us trophy after trophy. I can't think of a single better figurehead we could have.
He's also an incredibly considered individual and I have no doubt that he would not have taken this job on without very seriously considering all the ramifications. In short, I think if he thinks he's good enough for the job then it probably means he's good enough for the job - that's the kind of man he is.
If you can't tell, I'm delighted.

What is it that makes you think this David, I don't doubt your knowledge of the game, but I'm struggling for supporting evidence.

His technical knowledge seems pretty strong - he did an excellent job with Carneige - he had a great playing presence and when you hear him talking about the game his inner knowledge of the real aspects of the game is excellent
He needs leadership and boundries - Sinfield will bring that, I can see this really working well

| Hats off to GH. He's a genius...can't think of anyone else who could have pulled this off.
I was sorry to see Mac sacked but all good things come to an end.

I really hope you are right. IMO, the Sinfield appointment is great, and was always going to happen at some stage. I'll reserve judgement on the Lowes one until I've seen how we try to play on the field. I'm trying not to be a bit disappointed, let's see.

I agree it would have been great if GH said here is Kevin Sinfield and here is Craig Bellamy - that would be revolution - the club needs evolution.
Will Lowes work - I hope so and I genuinely think it will he has the correct leadership in place.

| Certainly didn't see this one coming. I'm really not sure how to feel.I mean, of course i'm happy Sinfield is back with the club but he has no track record at all in coaching (unless you believe he coached the team with JP for several years, which i don't).
There are still a lot of Sinfields old buddies knocking around in that squad too, a fair few that need moving on now in one way or another.i would have liked to see him work alongside/ over looking an experienced coach first for a few years who can fully see out the end of the previous era and into the new one.maybe that will still happen, but i get the feeling that GH is looking for any reason to make this permanent now and save money so expect any spin possible to polish the ending of this turd of a season be it finishing top 2 in the middle 8's or a couple of 'excellent results' in the super 8's.

| Lowes will achieve nothing hes totally the wrong choice. K S appointment seems a bit of a smoke screen to promote a coach not of the Leeds standard. G H doesn't get much wrong but his last two dissensions will bite his bum. Tides of change .

| It was an interesting comment that Barrie Mac made on Sky, Lowes is a great coach but doesn't want to do all of the other 80% of the work that a coach does when off the field.
This sounds like a bit of a smoke screen to get Sinfield to do that 80% and allow Lowes just to have that 20% input with the players. Announced in such a fashion to make it appear that Sinfield will be doing all of the work and will definitely be the focus of the media.
Could be a good combination as Lowes has the coaching background and Sinfield has the ability to front up to the media.

| Quote: batleyrhino "The appointment of Sinfield is clearly a first step into retirement for GH. The fact that he comes in now is simply to placate the worried masses. I'd fully expect another coaching appointment to be made at the end of this season for 2019 and beyond, along with a number of new players.
I did smile when Gary said that "all of our players have performed to outstanding levels over their time here, but not necessarily this season". No 5h!t Sherlock...
As an outsider looking in on the Leeds situation I think your point of GH bringing KS in and developing him with the aspirations of eventually becoming your CEO is pretty much the nail on the head.
Do question the timing of Mcdermott s departure. However I do feel he's lost the dressing room and has been skating on thin ice for a while now.
Maybe GH has gone down this avenue (for now) as your coach isn't immediately available due to paperwork or logistics. I did also hear from an Ex Pro Dennis Betts was already lined up for the position (does this fit with the Sinfield England link?)
I do also think that there's been no real players in abundance to take over the responsibilities of your golden generation. One or two yes, but not the quantity of the void left.
Makes Sunday interesting for you guys though I'd imagine the following week against Wakefield will be a better gauge for the rest of the season.
