I remember Holdsworth doing similar one Wednesday night at Oldham. A long kick was knocked on by the full back leading to a scrum. The players acrually formed the scrum pretty quick after running nearly the length of the field to get in position. The ball went in, but John noticed something nobody else di and made them stop and do it again, after a little chat (and a breather). |

Should have been sacked on the spot. Appalling decision. How you can come to that judgment after watching it from 2 decent angles a few times. Beyond me.

It was a ridiculous call and it made the sport look daft on national tv.
Even if I mutter at the time, I will give on-field a lot of leeway as it's an incredibly fast and complicated game to referee with literally thousands of decisions to make in every match. But I give the video refs no leeway whatsoever. They should get it right every time with no exceptions.
I'm not in favour of sacking people in any job for 1 incident but that's pretty close to being 1 where he should go.
The tackle on Calderwood in the 2003 cup final was another unforgivable and unacceptable incident.

There's no common sense applied. That wasn't an ''Oi! I'm peed about your decisions listen to me'' touch. It was a gentle, almost unconscious ''mind yourself I'm coming past'' touch.

Very kindly worded by the RFL, giving him the opportunity to jump before he was pushed. Gradually, the sport is returning to part-time referees out of necessity.
