Don't think he said he expects others to come round to his way of thinking.....and a bit rich coming from somebody who constantly says to me "accept your wrong" just because you don't agree with my opinion.

Quote: son of headingley "I'm with Fallon on this.

I have been BMD's biggest critic (well, one of them - there's plenty of competition!) & continue to question whether he can coach a team that is not liberally spread with international leaders & game-changers.

But, come on, we have all been citing the lack of defensive desire &/or structure for some weeks. That was evident last night.

Sure, if we had been playing a better side (& in dry conditions), we probably wouldn't have won. But we weren't. I am, like Fallon & others, quite frankly happy that there appears to be much more commitment & a little more organisation. Hopefully, we can build on this.

One thing - McGuire appears to be so far out of form (I know he hasn't been the only one) since his return & this is exacerbating our problem of lack of ideas in the opposition 20.'"

Think this is a spot on post.

When a team has been struggling and losing like ours then you're hardly going to break that losing run with some top notch Grand Final-esque winning performance. It's like a striker in football whose gone 10-12 games without a goal, he's more than likely going to break his spell with a two yard tap in rather than a 30 yard volley or a cricketer in a bad run of form when he does finally score some runs he usually has to scrap his way to a score.

It was a step forward which is always a good thing. Has the last two weeks been only 1/2 steps forward instead of several? Yes of course but that's a realistic path instead of expecting/demanding miracles.

As for the weather it didn't exactly help us at times either and a lot of our struggles to score more can be put down to a poor McGuire performance and Cuthbertson very disappointing also. That shouldn't take away from good efforts across the park and for the earlier criticism of McGuire I thought he along with Burrow made sure we got a lot of decent kicks away on the 5th without the messing around throwing the ball about confusion of most season when it's come to the last tackle. On the other side of the coin we did a better job of applying pressure and as such a lot of kicks from Salford went down the throats of Sutcliffe and Handley so we started a lot sets well set with field position.

Because it only blatantly exists in your head and your opinion that I'm wrong, not through fact.

No but you're one of a clique of posters who are utterly dismissive and look down your nose at us "sheep"......don't see anyone telling others not to post on here unless it complies with their opinion.

For what it'a worth, my take on Fridays game:
A much improved defensive effort, when was the last time we nilled a team? I'm sure there are some on here that'll have that fact to hand
The defence was not without errors but there seemed a genuine desire to work for each other and Salford may not have been good but there was some good last play options from them (Dobson and Lui in particular) and generally were dealt with but not without some nervous moments.
The game was a complete knock-on-a-thon but after getting home and watching Warrington v Hull FC where the conditions were nowhere near as bad i forgave Leeds a little more than i did whilst at the ground
Watkins seemed to be still 3rd tackler in and then going to 1st or 2nd marker leaving first tackler to retreat to the line leaving gaps that thankfully Salford didn't exploit
The attack still seems to be a bigger problem, we seem to move through the midfield fairly effectively but once in a good attacking position we seem to have little idea on how to break the opposition defence. Personally i put this down to having no effective leadership on the field. McGuire has been a great servant to the club and one of the best support players in SL. This is not enough to lead a team around a field. In the past (sorry if harping on) he has played along side a great leader and has grown up playing with, so even if Sinny didn't have to tell him where to stand or what was coming McGuire is no Sinfield. He doesn't have the connection with a halfback partner and doesn't know how to lead the team, he doesn't have the brains for it and we are a rudderless ship floating along wherever the current takes us. This is not solely McGuires fault as there doesn't seem to be enough movement off the ball. The lack of effective dummy runners, the fact that you could often throw a towel over the forwards they are that tightly bunched. Certain individuals are obviously not match ready,
to finish on a tiny bit of advice for BMD if they are not fit, our season is shot, don't play them. Use a kid, doesn't matter what happens now, we need bodies back for the middle 8's so get them fit for then

^^^^^^^^^

Last nilling was the 50-0 cup final vs HKR. In the league we did it twice in 3 rounds in 2011 vs Hull (20-0) and Cas (56-0)

The problem I think nantwiche is referring to is that the basic plan that most teams follow when playing badly has only been adopted two thirds of the way into the season. That is, focus on defence and field position. If you put a "highlights" reel of tries Leeds have conceded this year nobody in their right mind could suggest that defence has been a focus most of the season, at least when the players get out onto the field. Its been laughably bad with professional players seemingly unable to make a tackle stick or have any idea of the most basic defensive formations.

As for not picking injured players, I'm glad BM has admitted it. It was stupid early in the season, and TBH doesn't reflect well on him that its seemingly taken so long to see it has backfired spectacularly.

Exactly!
Some seem pleased that at least effort in defence was better against Salford and for that we should be somehow grateful. After every defeat - including the more recent thrashings - McDermott stated they would be working on the same issues.....why has it taken until now to manifest itself? Why is that a reason to be grateful and forgiving? Small mercies mentality.
As for selecting injured players....again surely more questions that should be answered not passively tolerated??

Out of interest, how many clubs don't play injured players? Tony Smith admitted doing so the other night and I tend to regard him, rightly or wrongly, as one of the more progressive coaches around.

I would disagree - the effort has been there - the defence looked better the last two week because Catalans were well below the standards they have set this year and Salford were abysmal. Against better sides that enthusiasm would not be sufficient. It will interesting to see how this new defensive structure pans out on Friday. A win for Wakey and they will be confirmed in the top 8 - a big feather in their cap.

B*ll*cks

You were just trying to earn some brownie points and have a pop at some people who simply stated the defence showed improvement and accused them of forgiving and forgetting all previous performances even though they clearly said no such thing.

Depends on how injured. Always a gamble. Some are better gamblers than others. At this stage of our season there is no plausible reason to play injured players. Several weeks ago the risk might have been worth taking.

Cas brought back Ben Roberts at Magic weekend and a week later he's ruled out for the rest of the season due to the foot injury that originally sidelined him.
