| I wonder if BM's comments were made to boost Morley who as a legend of the game deserved better from his team-mates, though he couldn't resist a farewell headshot on Burrow to remind everybody what they'll miss when he's retired.

Don't think it was Morley specifically, but the likes of BJB, Darrell Griffin, Hauraki and Liam Hood for example who he will have worked with at Leeds.

| The only issue I have with this is McDermott himself. There is no one in RL more sensitive to criticism than McDermott himself. The press conference after the loss against Saints where Moon was sent off and he used only two subs was truly an embarrassment. I have never once heard McDermott say he has got it wrong and his response to probing questions about is ability/decision making is to get aggressive
If you are going to give it out you have to be able to take it with equal magnitude otherwise you are nothing short of a schoolyard bully.

I agree with this. To add also there is posters here who moaned about Wane previously for making comments that shouldn't concern him, yet here we are when MCDermott it is all ok. Or even threads raised about Cunningham, yet doesn't matter when one of our own.
Last week was also embarrassing when a simple question from an interviewer made him react. What does he expect is going to happen now each week from the same interviewer? Knowing he can get a rise out of him every time.
For me he didn't have the right to say what he had, especially when not pushed to do so, and neither should any other coach. They should stick to what they are paid to do. For me it is against the spirit of the game, and the RFL should deal with it, as it is them that should also be dealing with how Salford is run.

| Good points well made by BMcD. But whilst Mahwan Quickcash is a high profile and very outspoken character you cannot help but think that RL needs someone to stick their finger in the pot and swirl it around abit. And Mr Quickcash may be doing the game a favour.
Personally I think marquee players is not the solution nor is unlimited salary for staff and players but RL is so far behind other TV based sports that it needs characters.
Perhaps a season or two in the championship is what Salford need. Looks at the Dwarfs it was the making of them IMHO after the fiasco of Maurice keeping them promoted by altering the rules each year.
The memories. Our Maurice and his seedy dealings! Lest we forget!!

| Possibly the good doctors fault is he is looking at things through a businessmans point of veiw.
He logically thought hiring a good or potentially top class coach in Harris and then signing some decent players, he may achieve some modicum of success . Whilst I have no brief for the good doctor, he may have grounds to ask why a squad if reasonably good players should underperform.
As I have posted previously the players have to share some of the responsibility of the clubs failure .

| To have a good team you need a group of players who respect each other and are prepared to show some honesty on the field. There is such a thing as personal pride in performance and that was sadly lacking on Friday.
You can blame the good Dr - he himself, unlike McDermott, has admitted he has made mistakes - but some of the players need to take a good look in the mirror.
Players like Chase will always be disruptive that is his nature - great talent but do you really want to build a team around his ego?

All of whom we dispensed with as not being good enough for us, whereas Morley, as you know, left to challenge himself in the NRL.
He was the one I felt was particularly let down on what was his farewell appearance at the ground where it all started for him.
IMV he deserved better from his teammates.

You were doing reasonably well up to that point.
It has absolutely nothing to do with the RFL. Why should it? Explain to me exactly how it is "bringing the game into disrepute".
It's someone within the game expressing an opinion on something else within the game. If you're not allowed to do that, then you may as well ban current players and coaches from going on things like the Super League Show, because they won't be able to say anything negative.
I would suspect some people on this thread are allowing their own antipathy towards McDermott as a coach and a person to cloud their judgement on this issue and turning it into another excuse to have a dig.

Not comparable incidents are they.

They are paid/asked/expected to do the post match interviews. He's given an answer to the question about the margin of the scoreline which he's allowed to do.

More than likely.
If an opposition coach publicly criticised McDermott about his non-use of subs they'd probably say that was fine because it's a topic they have an issue with.

I disagree, he has created a public spat for absolutely no reason. If it was his own club commenting on, then all fair, but not something else in the game that does not concern him.
I don't agree with your last statement, as I also felt very strongly on Wane commenting on other clubs too. For me it is not something coaches should be doing.

| And fair enough, it's not something you like coaches doing. But in no way does it merit censure from the RFL.
There have been much worse things said by people in the game that need attention this weekend, particularly over the Channel.
