| Quote: The Eagle "I have to say I agree. Although I've not seen the last couple of games by all accounts Kirke has been poorer than usual. He undoubtedly has a place in the squad, but at the moment I think that Singleton offers more.'"
Kirke has been gash.
The argument for Kirke is that he comes on and does a solid job, so he has to at least do that. Last few weeks he has been sloppy, mainly missing some easy one-on-one tackles whilst retaining his lack of appetite for the ball.
Just looking at the last game, Singleton showed him up again.
So purely on form I would have retained the powerful services of the ever learning and improving Singleton, over the out of form and pointless looking Kirke.
I thought Kirke had a great opportunity over the last couple of months with the lack of JP, Kylie and Bails (at certain stages) to put a marker down to say 'I can be trusted and do more'. He hasn't and he's in the worst run of form of his season.

'" Perhaps. That is the beauty of Kirke. He rarely needs a rest. He gets his rest in during the games.

He hasn't and he's in the worst run of form of his season.'" I said it at the time of JP and Kylie's injuries. Kirke became senior prop. I pointed out to his supporters it was now time to see what he was made of. He could no longer sit back in the luxury of being JPs "breather". He has shown us what he is made of. Puppy dogs, lollipops and a bright yellow streak.
Quote: LeedsDave "Have to agree.only reason i could possibly think of to leave Singleton out for Kirke is that he was carrying a knock recently IIRC and maybe its just precautionary.
We will have to see in the coming weeks but IMO Singleton should now be in the 17 every week even with players back fit, and should certainly be ahead of Kirke in the pecking order.'" IMO too. No chance though. Kirke will retain his place.
6 carries at Wakefield last friday I see.

As for dropping Singleton and selecting Kirke, how very predictable. I feel for the lad. I may be over reacting in a Gotcha or Bywater stylee but if wouldn't blame him if he wasn't ringing the NZ warriors and joining his mates.'"
You are over reacting. No maybes about it. Do you know for sure Singleton was dropped? Do you know if he is carrying an injury?
Or in the light of the long term injury to Ward, who some now say was overplayed, could it be that Singleton with his physical direct style is not being overplayed in the hard yards SL position of prop. Perhaps he is being rotated and not risked in a game which we should easily win but instead kept fresh and fit for the up coming playoffs? It would be ironic that those that criticised McDermott for not rotating players are now doing the same when he does. Now that is what you call very predictable!

Correct. He's barely played a dozen games for us..................in his entire Leeds career!
In context probably the same amount as Vickery!

I have heard of scraping the barrell, but this is just embaressing.
Who was stupid enough to say Ward was overplayed? I have heard it said played incorrectly as a battering ram, rather than his natural game, another coaching masterpiece, but overplayed not at all.
Singleton is miles away from overplayed, considering how long it finally took to sink in to start playing the lad.
If Singleton is injured and why he is not in squad, fair enough, but why not state it in the squad announcement. They do it normally with injuries, so why not this time? last week they dropped McShane and didn't say anything about it until releasing afterwards that the was playing for Hunslet (not injured).
It doesn't really matter anyway if Singleton is injured, Kirke like others before him should be dropped, and that is the problem. He has done absolutely nothing this season to warrant his position.

| Singleton excites me. I see potential, improvement and most importantly a nod to the future.
Kirke doesn't excite me........at all.

I often think i'd probably gain a bit of respect for him if he just laid into an opponent one time, or at least showed some sign of aggression/interest in the match.
As it is, he looks so disinterested half the time.

That would tear a hole in our reality.
Where would that leave us?
All the things I have suspended disbelief over I would have to back-track and believe in the Easter Bunny... Father Christmas and the chick out of Total Recall with 3 big boobies.

I've seen no injury reported. Still, even if Singleton was injured (do you know for sure he was?) I'd rather see a.n. other warm body ahead of the BFG.

As pointed out, I have said he was used wrongly. I opined I would have been interested to see him given Sutcliffe's role. How is that suggesting "overplayed" when I wanted him played as a pivot?
If he is being rested for the bigger games and McDermott selects him when it matters rather than an out of form, ineffective and workshy BFG I will happily concede I had McDermott wrong. I won't hold my breath.

| Is there an under 19s game this week? If he's playing then he's been dropped, which seems unfair. If he's not, he's injured / rested.
Personally, at their stage of development, I wouldn't object to the young lads getting the odd week off. The physical step up to SL should not be underestimated.

I personally would be giving the likes of JP a weeks rest and have him charged up for the run in.
If our coach has no confidence in the likes of Singleton or thinks he is over playing him.
Then let him play Thursday and "rest" him for the more cruicial games.
It does not make sense at all.
If the team is picked on merit then Singleton should be in the 17 every time and Kirke should be playing for Hunslet.
Any news when Achurch is back as no doubt that will push Singleton down the pecking order even further?

My thoughts too. His performance in his last outing was down on his usual.
