| I thought he over ran it slightly - had McGuire shot it straight to Vickery's run it would have been like the ghost of Brent Webb had never left the building.

Or different opposition. Or better fortune with injuries. Or key calls at certain times. Or any number of things.

Except that from my excellent viewpoint in the Carnegie stand it didn't look forward.
On that topic but OT from this thread, what was the difference between the pass from Tim Smith to his brother to that from Luke Robinson to McGillvray in the first half?
On tv both looked to be paseed from just about on the 10m line & caught well in front of it.
One was pulled back but the other one wasn't.
Silverwood, don't you just love him?
The call for the Smith no-try was correct by the way.

Unless both passers were stood still the lines on the pitch are fairly irrelevant to the eventual ruling - as we've discussed (and agreed) before.

I thought both decisions were correct from the coverage. Robinson was moving forward and stayed ahead of the ball at all times - at least giving the impression of a legitimate pass which I still think it was in this case.
The Smith to Smith one just looked a little wrong angle wise but there will be plenty of those that get ignored and in that sense Wakefield can feel a little aggreived that is until they benefit from one that goes their way and then it'll be all part of the game.
__________
Don't you find forward passes are incredibly difficult to judge from any one TV angle? The pass from acting half by Vickery to Peacock (Leeds' Jones-Buchanan scored off the next play) looked 100% forward from the gantry and yet eventually they found an angle from in front of the play the ball that made it appear perfectly OK.

| The anology applied to G1's non participation in this year's Southstander League table prediction comp - any further significance is a figment of your imagination. At least you've returned for this year's comp so all's not completely lost.
Are you in the weekly prediction comp this year Juan. I'm quite happy to continue our little 'faux rivalry' in there after coming out on top last season.
Quote: Juan Cornetto "I seem to recall we won the whole competition from the handicapped 5th position....beating "major rivals" Warrington, Wigan and Catalan in the big game playoffs "during the season".'"
In McDermott's first season at Leeds they failed to register a win of any description in any competition against one of their major rivals.
In McDermott's second season in charge they failed to register a win of any description in any competition against one of their major rivals.
Fortunately a poorly devised play-off format allowed other teams to take care of the teams Leeds apparently couldn't or perhaps couldn't be bothered with - probably too busy dying their hair that week.
Just saying, that's all.
I wonder which team will it be this season (or whether it will ever come to that with a weaker squad), I just hope it isn't Castleford.

Didn't Leeds beat Warrington and Saints in 2011 and Warrington & Wigan twice and Catalans once in 2012?

| Quote: tvoc "Was it foolhardy to rate the chances of all fourteen SL clubs before a ball was kicked in 2012 ?
.'"
Absolutely. And a silly prediction competition has little to do with bestowing terms like "great" upon a squad of players tat haven't played yet. Different thing all together.
Quote: tvoc "Judging by the final table perhaps that should be a yes in your case.'" It is yes, yes. That and I probably had little better to do at that point last year and this year I did.
Quote: tvoc "Is that really I'll take your word for it, you're the statto.
Quote: tvoc "Such a pity you've missed entering this year's comp.'" Isn't it. I'm devasted.
Quote: tvoc "Something will always be missing, like winning a Championship from 5th without beating one of your major rivals at any point during the season - should such an unlikely thing ever happen. That doubt of not knowing whether you were truely worthy of the title. The question remains is winning a competition without the boards self-proclaimed Alpha-male really worth winning?'" If that is how your kicks, fill your boots. I'm sorry I've left a void. I'm just that kind of guy.
Quote: tvoc "Safe and you do it with such charm I imagine nobody could ever take the slightest offense'" Then I am not doing it properly.

I seem to recall we won the whole competition from the handicapped 5th position....beating "major rivals" Warrington, Wigan and Catalan in the big game playoffs "during the season". Also "during the season" we knocked out "major rivals" Wigan from the Cup during the same "season" This was on top of beating our "major rivals" from downunder for the World Championship. What you fail to comprehend is that in the big games.... the ones that really matter Leeds did the business while their "majors rivals" did not.
You may retain your negative doubts but am happy we were worthy of the title and we were in the finals of all competitions "during the season"
You really do seem to take a delight in looking on the black side of life....are you always so depressed?
We also beat Catalans and Wire at HQ last season

I would hate to spoil you moment of glory but I dropped out mid term last season as I missed entries for too many weeks for it to be meaningful. Afraid it will be the same this term so will give it a miss.....so you might even come out on top again!
Quote: tvoc "In McDermott's second season in charge they failed to register a win of any description in any competition against one of their major rivals..'"
Indeed. But all of our major rivals failed to register a win of any description against us in two out of 3 knock out competitions last season and all bar one major rival failed to register a win in the other knock out competition.

| On the subject of recrutment. Has anybody seen anything of Ava Seumanufagai?
He's a big 22 y.o prop (6'4'' 112kg) currently with Wests.
I saw an extended clip of a NSW cup game from last season and the kid had a right game. Runs his size and has a great off load.
GH likes cheap and sometimes unknown. sensible thoughts if anybody knows more please.

| Quote: tvoc ".....
That would be the stand at a right angle to the direction of pass? Perhaps not entirely definitive then?
I agree the pass wasn't forward but that wasn't my point which was it would have been questionable had it been directed in front of Vickery's run as he had IMO gone early and overrun the intended pass. Compare and contrast to the timing of the ball from McGuire to Hall in the first half. Hall is a quality wingman.'"
My answer was meant to be ironic in the sense that Webb's passes were most of the time questionably forward. Particularly the flat, cut-out passes.
& I still think that Luke Robinson's pass was questionable, similar to so many to Joel Monaghan, due to the fact that many players find it difficult to pass strongly from left to right.

Mid-term sounds somewhat vague doesn't it. Around which week would you say you threw in the towel? IIRC it wasn't until quite late in the season when everyones position was firmly established.
If you want to make it a personal heads-up challenge for the rounds you entered then we still can. Would you like me to score it week by week to see who performed better over the weekly rounds you were there?
Could have actually been you ...... want to find out ?

Apt but there's really no need to be afraid. You'd only need be defensive about your relative standing if you felt you know more than the next poster and I don't think that's the case here.

Work meant I missed a few Friday games and sometimes the whole list so I lost interest. Seems to be important to you though. Did you win or something?
