Not a cheque but a pledge to be honoured once (and not before) the target was reached. The problem I have with that article is there are too many totals flying around like confetti will realise that but she still flies, albeit I think if we make it again (and I'm confident we will) that the end of this season could be the time to call it a day without a major sponsor steps forward and I see no prospect of that.[/size'"
I think its Bullseye who makes a comment on their forum that he would be prepared to stump up more than £100 IF he was offered some shares in the club as part of the deal - at this moment in history I can't think of a worse time to be asking members of the public to donate what is to many a substantial sum to help an ailing private company.

| I would miss Bradford as much as I would miss Wigan and Saints......I do not want to see any team fold especially a rival. Would Celtic fans want Rangers to go no longer exist - I think after a couple of months they would start to yearn for that rivalry to be re-kindled.
I do not understand how they achieved a license for three years though. What did they show the RFL that proved beyond reasonable doubt that they would be financially secure for the next three years?
I think the RFL have a lot of questions to answer on this front.....
I think their license should be re-voked from next season.......but I would like to see them sort themselves out and come back.

It's worse than that. They're being asked to donate a substantial sum to funnel through an ailing private company but with the money actually going to a publicly-owned company (which in itself was an ailing private company until saved by a massive "donation"icon_wink.gif, with that company converting the money into dividends and bonuses rather than using it for the credit it's supposed to provide, credit that would have made the original donation unnecessary.

As a business model it relies on your product being something that people will pay to come back for. It seems (hard to be sure) to be working gradually for Huddersfield, but frankly the atmosphere at Odsal has been a bit depressing the last couple of years (sp terraces, poor team and club-land entertainment make it reminiscent of Tuesday afternoon at the Phoenix Club and a far cry from the buzz the place had in the early years of SL) so I imagine people take the free/cheap tickets, watch the game and disappear again.

| The rights and wrongs of the Harris case aren't relevant, but the fact is that since that case the financial and playing strengths of the 2 clubs have gone in opposite directions. The attendances at the derby games have fallen significantly.
What is the point of having two RL city clubs in Yorkshire if they aren't competitive with each other - which big games are left other than the 3 from Lancashire and Hull.
It's similar to Glasgow Rangers' demise, Celtic fans may be initially overjoyed but we all need an enemy - Warrington needs its Wigan, Hull needs its KR, City needs its United.
And Leeds have plenty of previous in being vultures - I seem to remember you picking the bones of Keighley and Sheffield rather successfully in the past.

| The tip of the iceberg maybe. All those gloating over the club's demise are short sighted. The RL can scant afford to see another club wound up. Sad days indeed.

Instead, should Leeds have let both clubs continue with their financial struggles? From what I gather, the act of signing the likes of Fleary, Sheridan, Hay and Powell, taking them off the pay-rolls of those clubs, helped them to remain in existence.
It's easy to point to Leeds as the bogeyman in all this, but Bradford's problems are largely of their own making.

The Bulls games have no real significance as a derby. In 2003-2005 they gained significance because both sides were competing for honours. These days it means no more to me than games against Cas or Wakey. The Bulls match is just another game for me now.
Lately, it is Saints games that feel like Leeds' biggest derby, but as fortunes change, that could change. Our most genuine geographical derby was Hunslet, but that now only happens in a pre-season friendly.
You can't manufacture the type of meaning the Hull derby has for people.
That said, and actually for the reasons above, a strong Bradford (with a strong Leeds) does make for an extra "event" fixture in the calendar. Those games around 2003, 2004 and 2005 certainly had a good atmosphere about them.

Gloaters are in a tiny minority though. Don't invent arguments.
