My brother taught Dave & Wayne Heron and Sonny Nickle at secondary school.

If he taught Sonny Nickle everything he knows, then your brother should be ashamed of himself.
My Dad's teacher was none other than Mr Joe Warham, or so he tells me in his more sane moments...

....and I can confirm that Joe (or Mr Warham to us then) was a very good Maths teacher.

last years wembley 2010,we were in the very big queue for our coach at headingley and we were stood just behind Ray Batten, Albert Eyre and Alec Dick we were chatting away with them and they just sounded like fans.I cant see you getting that sort of thing in the FA Premiership

I do wish work wouldn't get in the way of posting on these threads!! Joe Warham taught me maths (he was a good mathematician but no more than an okay teacher!) He also was my school rugby coach for a while at Roundhay. My abiding memory of which was him laughing as I puked up during the first fitness session of the season.
Ray Batten was great but never got the recognition at international level he really deserved. IIRC he was around at the same time as Mal Reilly and Dougie Loughton in an era when we used to actually beat the Aussies at RL!
Having said that I guess I would have to rank Sinfield ahead of him simply in terms of his sustained success, leadership, kicking and distribution skills. But Batten was a joy to watch in terms of slieght of hand and amazing distribution skills

| Graham Eccles gets my vote, just ahead of Bob Haigh. I never saw Arthur Clues play, but reading through some old Aussie magazines he was a hell of a brute !
Did I read of the death of Albert Eyre the other day ?
sincere apologies if I am wrong

Sonny Nickle was a big tough unit on the field but he gets my respect off the field for his decency in attending the funeral of my late brother some 15 years after leaving school.

Sadly I think you did, my Dad mentioned this to me too as Kenny and Albert were school mates of his. Kind of puts you in touch with your parents mortality I guess....

Ah. I was 78-84. I don't think they let Joe teach maths when I was there, but he was head of games still. I gues it was not a Comprehensive when you started?
