Not for most no, just for some like the thread opener for example who made a case for signing Calderwood.
The only question came at the end when they asked if anyone agreed and guess what ..... nobody has.

| If you could guarantee a fit and on form Calderwood, I think a wing partnership of him and Hall would be pretty exciting - Unfortunately, the 'fit and on form' part has been and gone, so it's a no from me too. Unless of course he fancies training and playing for nowt to earn himself a contract - then I'd snap his hand off.

It's a non starter, let's all move on with our lives and forget this thread was ever started.

| The top and bottom of it is Calders played only four games the whole season. His workrate and commitment couldn`t be faulted when he did play for us.As posted by a previous person,Hull medics have probably found something amiss.

In life you gain much more respect if you admit when you are wrong. Nobody who reads your first post can draw any other conclusion other than that you are advocating his re-signing.
I actually think there is some mileage in it if he would agree to a match by match basis.....but he would have to be pretty desperate for those terms .... And maybe he is ? Who in their right mind would give him a long term contract - of even one year - after his recent history ?

Serious question - how do 'match by match' contracts work in respect to the salary cap - do you account for the player playing every match in the season or do you take a gamble and allow maybe 75% of all the seasons games?

Really depends on the player's financial demands. Obviously the least the club can commit to the better. There will be (and should be) a cut off point: the amount of which I obviously have no insight into.
The club holds all the cards in that there is no desperation on its part.....there might be an abundance of said desperation in Calderwood's position. Again I have no idea of the exact circumstances and either way it's not a priority. A passing suggestion only.

How so?
Quote: Fallon "Anyone else think Caldy might not be a bad option?'"
It appears fairly simple.
The 'anyone else' suggests very strongly that what preceded was the view of the proposer and he is then looking for some support.
He doesn't appear to have got much if any though.

I agree. Fallon should just admit he's wrong rather than trying to wriggle out of it.
It's plain for all to see what he meant.

In the interests of earning the respect of my fellow posters which I apparently so crave I will in this instance admit my mistake.
That being that I was not clear on which part of TVOCs message I was calling inaccurate. Ive therefore been more precise.
Once again, I call this inaccurate. Suppost has not being glowing but their are clearly pockets of open minded thought that should the right deal be available it may be an option, which was all I was asking.
For the record I genuinely am neither for or against Caldy. I would have preferred us to have tried to get Ainscough but thats another thread.

Ban the bomb to the wingers and he might be.
Has the Penny dropped yet as to the next enlightened ( but only kidding really ) suggestion ?

| Could we not sign the 1930s vintage Eric Harris? Or maybe the 1970-ish Alan Smith and John Atkinson combination?

No Im being serious. I dont doubt Ainscough is a bit rough around the edges but he knows his way to the try line ok.
I remember, back in the heady days of the mid 2000's when we signed a winger called Scott Donald. All he managed to catch for the first couple of years was a cold. Yet I remember that with some training he turned into a pretty decent winger.
How did the song go again ....... he used to be 'a bit rubbish' but now he alright?
