We've been awful every time we've been on Sky, I'll give you that. Usually we try and chuck the ball around and try impossible moves.

| I think this is a great step forward for the club, he knows the workings of the club and it's management and has the respect of the more senior players at the club. He will provide good support and guidiance for the under 20's next year and hopefully bring a few of them through the to the first team in 2012. The whole club will go through a massive change at the end of next year with a whole host of players coming to contact end and the shape of the club and the team with change dramatically, with McDermott at the helm, if Bluey does decide to move back to NZ, possibley to the Warriors, then I think the club has a very good future, with quality staff and sound finances. The future looks bright.

| Has there been any news on whom will be Poching's replacement?

| Not sure about McDermott as head coach.
He's unproven for mine. Harlequins have been as decent as they have been dire under mcdermott. Mediocre really. I realise he has limited resources, very tough job yadda yadda but theres tons of times where that's been the case and a top coach ''works miracles''.
I'm not sure McDermott is a top head coach.
With respect, what english coaches have success in recent times?
We've had noble. Kears pulled off a few shocks. But apart from that, anyone? have I missed someone? Seems to me english coaches in recent times generally don't have a great record.

Indeed.
One way of looking at it is that McDermott could bring back a renewed focus on youth development, which as others have suggested, seems to have been on the slide under McClennan.
McClennan came in as a relatively inexperienced club coach who had proven successful in getting the top players to perform at international level, and that is what he has effectively delivered at Leeds - getting a talented bunch of players to meet their potential. With the core of the team getting well into their late 20s and early 30s, we need a new coach that will help manage that transition. McDermott was around when Smith effectively did that in 2004 (we can debate 'till the cows come home how much input Smith did have relative to Powell...). Hopefully McDermott's time with Smith will see a return to a more technical style of coaching (which some have suggested is missing under the current regime) that will benefit younger players coming through.

| Good move by Leeds. I think McDermott didn't get the full credit for the work he did under Smith. The last couple of years we have looked undercooked at the start of the season and not a lot of evidence of game plan, discipline, wrestle techniques from the coaching staff. So I think we will sharpen up.

| Cummins re-joining forces with Tony Smith again would not surprise me. They appeared to have a good working relationship before.

I guess the proof will be in the pudding when he takes over.

| Superb appointment indeed!
Brian McDermott has done very well at a club with limited resources.
He took over the club mid-season in 2006 and they've made steady progression during his tenure.
2005 - 6th (play-off spot)
McDermott's tenure:
2006 - 7th
2007 - 9th
2008 - 9th
2009 - 11th
2010 - 12th currently (were 14th last week).

Worrying indeed Keith and a cause for my concern about this appointment.

Fletcher: Course, he sees 'imself as an authority on curry, he does, on account of where he was stationed in the army.

| I still wouldn't get too over exited about Brian Mac getting the top chair just yet. A lot can happen in 12 months. I won't be convinced till there's a photo on the back page of the evening post with Mac and the sleeve shaking hands in front of the south stand.
