Quote: William Eve "Regional county championship seasons were 1896-97 to 1900-01... '"

Indeed they were, I made a typo, should have said 1896-1901 not 1896-1906.

Quote: William Eve "…
Depends on what the issue is WRT adherence to tradition. I'd like to see the return of GB, traditional tours and a return to the former winter schedule. The SL era has all but destroyed any international credibility the sport once had. Huge price to pay for being a bit-part in Sky Sports scheduling.'"

I wouldn't mind returning to GB and tours, not for reasons of mere tradition but because it's better.

Winter? Nope.

I don't think it was just McShane yesterday, Brough made more than one or two players look pedestrian at times.

Quote: William Eve "League placing returned for two seasons in the 60's... 1962-63 and 1963-64 seasons... then another 25 seasons from 1974-75 seasons until and including the 1997 SL season. '"

Agreed with the 25 season run for deciding Champions on a first past the post League table but that sequence started the season before 1973/74

The last Championship Final took place at Odsal the year prior to that and had seen eighth placed finisher Dewsbury beating the third placed finisher Leeds. IIRC Stevo scored two tries and won the Harry Sunderland Trophy that day.

To be fair to McShane he put Ta'ai on his backside in the first half, that takes some doing!

mcshane has shown he's clearly the best attacking hooker at leeds have...sadly he's also shown that he's pony in defence and as any good coach (and mcdermott, the sh*t coach according to plenty on here) knows that deference wins you games. hence why macca struggles to stay in the first team when everyone is fit; i don't actually agree with giving burrow 80 minutes every game but can understand why mcdermott is staying loyal to guys like burrow even when he was bad at the start of the year (well actually bad until he moved back to 7). 10 years of quality at the top league gives your some breathing room; chopping & changing guys like macca is easy, one thing it does show is that leeds/mcdermott clearly care where they finish in the league!

as for the rumour, i'd love lunt back at leeds and was very sad to see him go, but at the same time (despite my comment above) until Leeds find a position for burrow, lunt would be wasted at leeds. he's a 60/70 minute hooker who would get 40 minute max at leeds, maybe 60 minutes top but would spend a fair amount of that time floating in the back row.

macca is no doubt capable of putting a good shot on, he's also liable for hand a dozen bad reads / bad tackles a game.

Best typo I've seen for a while ... but we know what you mean. icon_wink.gif
That said, I have seen little evidence of the defence improving, to me it's the area in which Leeds need the most improvement.

The Giants have lost their court case with Keith Mason and have to pay him a whopping £167,000 over the length of his contract,so that will leave them well tied up money wise

Could my rumor about Lunt coming back to the Rhinos be true?

That would be £55,666 per inch for me.

Reading the previous days press reports sounds like the Giants contract and salary cap shenanigans are very close to shady.

But on the downside, he does now have to spend time in Castleford.
