rebuilding
rebuilding what?
Only 1 year ago we had won 3 titles on the trot. Donald and diskin leave and suddenly, magically we are rebuilding.
Geez, imagine if clarkson left? we'd be in MAJOR TRANSITION.

He did his job at London which was to turn the club from an over reliance on Australians to a club bringing through British talent.
Shame he couldn't have persuaded McCarthy Scarsbrook to move to Leeds instead of St Helens.

Just so we're clear, you're talking about the St Helens who have appointed a coach who, prior to being an assistant at Wests Tigers was sacked by Hull and had a largely uninspiring spell in charge of Penrith, and Wigan who last season appointed an a coach who had never held a head coaches role previously? The latter didn't seem to do that badly if I remember rightly.

| Brian McDermott has absolutely no credentials which entitle him to take over a champion club in Leeds and is the worst appointment that you could possibly make.
Harlequins looked like being relegated with two games to go in his first season in 2006 before he pulled clear to 7th. He then finished 9th, 9th, 11th and 13th in his next four full seasons. He was on a downward spiral from the start and it ended with something like 7 wins from his last 38 games.
His cup performances were diabolical and he only won about 40 from 120 games all in. He is almost as bad as his namesake Steve Mac, who is probably the only weaker appointment you could have got.
He gets one good win a season on average but against Quins peers he has been shocking. His win record at home against Salford the season they went down in 2007 was a draw; an away defeat with no tries and a narrow win after they were already down. When they returned he lost against them at home in 2009 and again both home and away in 2010. He has failed to ever win at Wakefield Wildcats. He has been slaughtered at home by Castleford 0-48 and 13-65 twice in the last three years. He can be counted on not to win against even the smaller rivals.
Mistakenly he has had the credit for the Tony Rea proteges of Clubb, Sharp, Worrincy and McCarthy-Scarsbrook when they were not brought through by him but already had been introduced. He has instead brought through the far lesser known Bolger and Krasniqui plus much poorer players like O'Callaghan, Williams and that's about it in five years. The better players in this list have mainly left and of his signings only Jason Golden and Luke Gale have been relatively good.
He has also made a massive amount of weak signings including many players he had previously coached like Ben Kaye, David Tootill, Matt James and Andy Smith, showing his poor judgement. Quins had the likes of Henry Paul, Scott Hill and Mark McLinden and he replaced them with signings who were pension players like Robinson, Williamson and other players with nothing left.
I like Leeds and I am shocked with such a disappointing bloke - he is curt and he is a loser.
Cheers
Mark

| God help you......he is cack! Your senior squad members will maybe drag you along in 2011.....but after that, get ready for a bus load of 2nd Rowers being signed and then played out of position.

Nrl education.
That automatically makes them better than McDermott.

| i'm very happy! .....the Dulls who are scoffing remember, you were nowhere until Brian Smith came to your club, he laid the foundations for the excellent work done by Matt Elliott, admitedly a good time for you, he left it in the safe hands of Nobby who fed off the hard work M.E. had done and taught McBanana all he knows, a downward spiral ever since!
Leeds on the other hand, have excelled in the SL era coaching wise and I think Brian Mac will do a good job.

Nope....he signed the likes of Mick Nanyn who was supposedly a centre but rolled up carrying more weight than a prop...now at leigh Stephen Bannister now at Fax after 9 games in 2 years Sam Thompson now at Barrow......can you see where this is heading?
He also moved Tony Clubb to 2nd row....even though he had just been capped by England at Centre......
As for the Talent coming through.....he takes no credit for that or for blooding youngsters...he had no choice given we couldn't attract any decent players due to having no cash and even less success under his leadership.
I repeat.....he is not up to the job of a first team coach...is dour and very set in his ways. I asked him at the start of the 2008 where he thought we would finish...he said first. I repeated the question and asked for a serious answer...he repeated first. We ended up 9th with 11 wins.........good luck Leeds...he is cack!

Weren't you among them?
I seem to recall a comment of yours that suggested McNamara would follow a similar path to that trod by the previously unheralded Matty Elliott. I replied it wouldn't. I guess one of us was always going to be more right than the other.

That's why I posed the question I did on the previous page. I don't see how Saints are better off. I'm not sure he was sacked by Hull but he was definitely sacked by Penrith, although I think he did take Penrith to a final one year, and didn't he take Hull to a semi? I can't remember. Either way, Saints have hardly chosen a nailed on successful head coach. I think ours is at least as big a risk as Leeds with McDermott.

| Quote: Era of the Biff "Did he stop the over reliance of Australians or not?'"
No..He didn't. Any number of reasons can be rolled out for the migration from a team full of aussies in 2002 to a team with more English players than any other.......and I wouold suspect Finances would be the main one!
Quote: Era of the Biff "Have youngsters been brought into the first team?'"
He was at the club at the right time.......he reaped the benefits of the academy set up that has been around for a while.....for the record, Tony Clubb and LMS gained caps as a result of the work done by Tony Rea as well as Mac and both were coached and "blooded" by Rea......since then, in his 4 and a bit years we have had no other capped Londoners. The conveyer belt of Talent is only now coming into its own and last year a fair few of the kids who played for the 1st team weren't ready.
I repeat..if a player falls out of favour with him then they will languish in the reserves or been loaned out....it's his way of the highway......but let's wait and see shall we. I suspect that He will get 1 decent season out of your squad......but then he will be found out.
