If this is true there is no wonder team spirit looks shot. Sinfield has made some poor calls in his short time as DOR and this is a terrible way to treat a great servant to the club.

Can't win really, if they paid him marquee wages on his current form he'd get just as much stick.

The club will never win with some fans, everybody agrees a clear out is needed and it seems to be happening but fans will still moan.

Exactly. How anyone can say it is poor treatment is beyond ridiculous. True or not, the way that reads is that they are looking to change the terms of his deal, OR he goes. That is proper business sense, not poor treatment. We have to work within a cap, and the highest earners should always be the ones who give a greater return. If he isn’t producing, then why in the world would they pay him more?

Not sure how much truth there is in it..

Havnt seen much of Mellor, from what i have...he runs great lines, athletiic and seems to have a good attitude, his line speed in defence is very good. He does seem to be a bit lightweight, he makes his tackles but he dosnt hit with much pop. Not sure if he can add much size if he hasnt already but hes a tall thing so his frame could probably carry it. Overall, pretty happy if he's signed, like the look lf his game, would like it more if he could add a few kgs. Again, havnt seen loads of him so could be way off.

Whats everyones opinions on him?

An England international and one of our best players for several years.
Been at the club since a kid and if rumours are true, stuck with the side when he has had more lucrative deals elsewhere.
He suffers a serious injury while playing for the club.
He is just back from the injury (an injury that can take a season to fully get over)and struggling to get back to his best while playing in a struggling team.
A time when you would expect the management to give him as much support as possible.
The clubs response, go back on their word and offer him a contract lower than the one promised.
If that is the way we treat our players there is little wonder team spirit looks as low as at any time in recent years.

Can't see there'd be much demand from NRL clubs based on this year's form!

The team is in need of major surgery, if a huge chunk of money is tied up in a player who's putting average (at best) performances then the teams position will suffer for this. If I was Watkins I couldn't put in those performances and take marquee wages.

I guess it all depends if Watkins is being asked to take a real-time cut or being denied a lucrative increment based on performance...

On reflection, either way it doesn't look good for things to come out into the public sphere like this. By all means, free up more cap space, and get tougher with players who aren't performing, but not sure if Watkins is top of the list.

Hope this can be sorted out without any more bad blood.
