| Quote: JerryChicken "Mr Eve is absolutely correct in both his posts on ticket prices, its a nice surprise to see a realistic view given to the marketing of what [ishould[/i be a great game of RL but it still remains a surprise and a one-off - as he points out, what happens in the next round, and the next, will prices go back up to circa £20 and if so then why ?
Truth is that to balance the books the crowd for this game will have to be two and a half times what it would have been if "normal" SL prices had been levied, just to get back to where they would have been - we shall see.'"
Well.... a great rant this... on the positive side I mentioned that I was going to this game to my colleague that I sit next to at work, his reaction "Will it be a good game" I replied "I would have thought so", his reaction "while you are ordering your ticket do you fancy ordering one for me and my 7 year old son!" The last time he went to a game was 1994 at Keighley. If a ticket price of £8 and £3 respectively for him and his son (who has never been to game before) wins over some RL supporters (of any club), then it is the right move, in my book!

| I cannot understand why such a positive move by the two clubs produces such negativity from some folks.
I must be in the minority but I really like knock out rugby be it CC or SL payoffs. I think the main reason the CC no longer draws the large crowds of yesteryear is TV. Secondly messing about with its traditional dates has given it a 2nd class status plus of course the advent of the Grand Final has meant the CC Final has lost its exclusivity and end of season highlight position. So the RL spectators have lost the habit of going to a good CC game
This match with the top two Yorkshire clubs both in form should be a cracker and it deserves to have the atmosphere that only a large crowd can provide. It should appeal to the neutrals too. If this price reduction does bring in a good crowd and it is a good game it may kick start a revival for the CC.
Our game is in the entertainment business and as a business must constantly be looking at marketing ideas. Almost every other business sector uses discounts, sales, 2 for 1 etc as a central part of their business plans. The sight and sound of empty stadiums on TV games is a real devaluation of our game and anything that can arrest this decline is to be welcomed.
So I say well done for this initiative.

| Over 8000 advanced tickets sold so far. So there will be a good attendance which will make the game on national TV look a lot better.
That is how you attract sponsors and make the game of RL more attractive to newbies and sponsors.
Playing to empty stadiums is bad for the image of the game as a whole.

How often do Huddersfield plan on flogging tickets that cheap? And for how long will it be financially viable?

Depends how many they sell - if they get 15k instead of 5k then it will have been a well received promotion. Let's face Huddersfield have been flogging tickets this cheap for quite some time so it would suggest the strategy has some merit?

If they get 15k instead of 8k it doesn't work though does it, although I'm sure the astute owners of the club know where the break even point is - could we be seeing a realisation that the cow has been milked dry and a new realism needs to be applied to cover costs and to hell with the £20+ perceived valuation of a ticket ?

| Too many knockers about the clubs trying to promote the game and make it affordable for families to come down and watch.
The weather has improved, the football is almost done, summer rugby, entertainment at affordable prices, and a fantastic all West Yorkshire cup tie, brilliant, stop knocking people who are trying to generate interest in a sport that's been struggling to interest people in watching it.
Can't wait!

| Well Hudds are up in financial terms in my case. What would have been one £20 ticket sold has been turned into 4 £8 tickets plus the increase in drink/food etc due to persuading 3 mates to come who wouldn't have paid out for £20 tickets

This is more to the point.
2 @ £8 is much better than 1 @ £16 for a multitude of different reasons but mainly 2 people paying £8 each are more likely to buy 2 £3.50 burgers and 2 £3 beers.
The more folk through the gate the more they're gunna spend.

| Well certainly is the case with us. It would have just been me and the old lad going at normal prices. With these prices it'll now be me, two sisters, both their chaps and my nephew and niece

| They got £24 out of me today. I haven't been to a cup game in 3 years and my grandad hasn't been to a game at all in 2 but we have bought 3 tickets today. It seems to be working for the Giants anyway.

Which stand did you get tickets for?
