I'm told we tried that with ratu after offering him a new deal but he didn't want that and i'm guessing broughton would have the same approach.
The difference with saints was that their players were already on 2yr contracts whereas our players are ooc and will have more options.

Can fully understand if he is wanting to move on, not given chance under Brian McClennan, plus I'm lead to believe that a few promises made to Broughton were not fulfilled.

Sending him out on loan isn't an option for me.

Look at what happened to Ratu, went on loan to Halifax thought he was bigger / better than the other players. Consequently ended up not playing first team and returned a worse player than did when he went.

If Broughton wants to leave, because he's not happy to be first reserve winger behind Hall and Donald next season, then for me he can do. He's not got long to wait before he can make a shirt his own at Leeds (assuming he is actually good enough) so for me he should back his own talent, wait for a chance and push for a jersey.

i sometimes wonder whether or not these kids that the rhinos loan out to other clubs,actually realise why the club does it in the first place?

if jodie,who went out on loan to hull and made a success of it at sl level,then wouldn't that in your mind then alert his parent club to his obvious potential and put him in the pecking order squad wise?

The only problem with the 'first reserve' scenario is that its a bit of a promise to nothing really. I do agree with the wish that players would take a long-term view, but I can fully understand it if the likes of Ratu and Broughton (who lets not forget has never played first team for Leeds) decide to try to kick on straight away elsewhere. In Broughton's case he's played for Hull and done OK, and probably wants first team ASAP.

A consequence of Leeds needlessly (IMO) extending Donald's stay into 2010.

I'd have much rather Leeds had said thanks for the memories Scott and let one of Broughton/Jones-Bishop/Watkins integrate into the first team and kept within the spirit of the RFL's overseas trained limit.

Tell me, what's the difference between Watkins and Broughton? You weren't willing for Watkins to learn on the job in the centres and wanting someone signed.

From what I've heard he's doing well with his studies and has the option to have a longer and higher income outside of sport. I believe he's frustrated with doing two jobs at once, having to dash back for training - but the fact he does so show's he has a lot of determination for Leeds and that he still wants that chance.
