| Quote: Old Feller "Not much to add to the comments above with which I generally agree except to say that I always had a soft spot for Creasser who was plagued by shoulder injuries throughout his career. It was his premature departure that forced Ward into trying Schoey at no 6 when all else had failed. It always grieved me that Sean Edwards won so many trophies whereas his infinite superior Schofield won hardly anything.'"
I liked Creasser, but it was a blessing in disguise he vacated the 6 jumper for Schoey. Both Hunslet (well Belle Isle) lads - there's been some players over the years from that neck of the woods....

Soon we will be dancing the Fandango
FROM 2004,TO DO WHAT THIS CLUB'S DONE,IF THATS NOT GREATNESS THEN I DONT KNOW WHAT IS.

| Quote: Juan Cornetto "Lewis Jones was the maestro with so much talent and the best SO in my opinion. That is not to underestimate the superb skills of Holmes and Schofield who were also a delight to watch. Jones and Holmes both had great heads-up awareness with the ability to put others into space and they were also top place kickers. Both Jones and Schofield had the ability to ghost past defenders with ease and bring the crowds to their feet with individul brilliance. For all action consistency, toughness and instinctive play Mick Shoebottom would make my list too.
All three were game changers so the batting order for me is 1. Jones 2. Holmes and 3. Schofield 4. Shoebottom'"
THIS.seen some great ones since Jones , but I think Jones was a Genius

| Like many before I never saw Lewis Jones so for me John Holmes has to be the best individual half back I've seen.
Back in the day we were fortunate to have a great partnership in Seabourne and Shoebottom and a decent partnership in Hepworth and Hardisty.
I think we have been blessed with many very good outside halves over the years but it's hard to think of a really top class pairing in recent history although on reflection Burrow and Maguire weren't too shabby when both were at their best.

| Never saw Mick Shoebottom play but both he and Chris Sanderson deserve mention for giving everything.

| 'Best' is always so tricky as it means different things to different people.
It will be very hard for any player let alone SO to surpass what Sinny has done and meant to the team. By no means has he been the most creative or exciting 6 but my god did he know how to move the team around and control a game.
Harris had more natural talent than I have seen in a player for a very long time and I always felt he only really showed a small % of what he was capable of. The problem was that nobody else was anywhere near his level so he looked unpredictable at times and took so much on himself.
As mentioned, cliff Lyons had all the makings, and showed it in Oz, of a truly great SO. He would have been fantastic in the team we have had for the last decade rather than the one he actually played in for us.
The list goes on but for me, and the history books, Sinny edges every other out.

Surely Sinny's best days were at loose forward though? (for club at least)

| The Issue for me regarding Schofield is that when you needed him to put in a big performance in a big game he never showed up. The mark of a truly great player is their ability to crank things up when really needed Schofield never did in a big game for Leeds

I'm never great at remembering dates like some on here but Sinny was our 6 for at least the last 5 years of his career and it's no coincidence how successful we were for me.
Whether that was his best position, or the best position for the team is a different debate.
Like I say, 'best' is hard to define but for me based on players I have watched live over a reasonable period Sinny made the biggest and most consistent contribution as a 6.

he played 6 in the 2004 grand final so has alternated between both roles

45465_1384791340.jpg And last but not least, to all those people who wrote this team off.
To all those people who critisized this team...tonight's for you.

| Harris, then Lewis Jones. Harris just has edge because he was better defensively. Mick Shoebottom was a class act. Mags??? Are you kidding? He was a superb poacher/finisher in his prime, but once age/injuries took their toll he lost his edge (and he ain't no organiser). Schoey is a legend too.

Absolutely - and is one of the very few British players the Aussies have genuinely feared in all my time watching the game. That's probably helped by the fact he ripped it up down there during his spells with Balmain (and latterly Wests). He was the top try scorer in the Aussie comp one of the years he went down there and did a stint.
Infact, I'm not sure I can think of any British back who's had an impact playing down under since Schoey.
