Because a shoulder charge can be utilized in a safe way to stop an opponent 99% of the time. Union's laws about having the wrap your arms around an opponent are ridiculous.

| Another reason why our sport outshines others. You wouldnt get Rooney posting pics like that without making money out of it.

yes they are, the southern hemisphere commentators seem to want 'hits' to be allowed.
you can just as easily cause a nasty injury by accident whilst wrapping your arms around.
let's not forget this tackle was entirely legal, just unfortunate for luke burgess

our sport is full of MEN who spend most of their careers pretending not to be injured.
Football is full of blokes who spend most of their careers pretending they are injured
and the fans fall for it and believe it

| Quote: Andy R "If you bothered to read what I actually wrote instead of scratching your head looking confused your poor little brain might have been able to keep up.
Just for the record I asked if a shoulder charge, without an attempt to wrap the arms around the tackled player was now illegal?
I await another head scratching response as the idea someone might mention something the SKY commentators and the general masses haven't discussed'"
Apologies if I misinterpreted what you were saying, but it seemed that you were implying it should be illegal, or it was in other codes. I was saying that it was an accidental clash of heads in a collision, and there's no way that should be illegal, or that outlawing a shoulder charge will prevent clashing of heads.
It's like saying you shouldn't be able to tackle from behind if you're the second man in because you could break somebody's trailing leg - just as Richard Owen found out in the third game of the season - ending his season and putting a highly promising career off the rails for a few years.
It's just one of those things that happens in a heavy contact sport, it's all dangerous - and that's part of its charm.

| Wishing a speedy recovery to Luke, the photo looks bad but glad to see he's at least concious.
I gave a huge cheer as the hit went in and enjoyed it immensely, but after a few moments it was clear something bad had come from the challenge. I was as concerned for Luke at that point as I was when Westy got KO'd against Saints and when Owen went down at Bradford. It's a game we're all passionate about and the hits are what makes our game great, but we also hate to see players in a bad way, yes even Leeds players!

| Sickening....certainly put a dampner on the evening. Was watching on Sky with wife and kids in my continued efforts to convert the whole family from football and RU. I was succeeding......but now my wife has vowed not to watch again
I daren't show her Luke's photo. She'll come round though I'm sure...up until then she was actually enjoying the skill strength and commitment on display in abundance. It was an accident but I bet the lad that did it isn't feeling his best.
Get well soon Luke. As always you RL guys command nothing but respect from me: I hope you go on to achieve many good things in what is by far the best sport in the world for real men.

| Quote: binks "You would say that Sandal wild cat (in your opinion) it was shoulder to shoulder it happens every game
Its a contact sport ffs you really are a tool'"
Sorry it doesn't happen every game. And the reason it doesn't happen every game is because it's a really stupid way to "tackle" people. Walker ran full pelt at Burgess and just collided with him. He made no attempt to set himself for contact in any way. Walker was very, very lucky he didn't get seriously injured as well. In the end, a really dumb ass "tackling" attempt has seriously injured a player. His coach should have words with him because if he does that every game he'll last about another game before he gets stretchered to hospital himself.
I'm not saying it was malicious and I'm not saying it was intentional or deserves review, but FFS, it was stupid . Walker could have ended his career as well as that of Burgess. He didn't even use his shoulder properly.
