| They have not done much inside to Wrigley at all from a fan's perspective. The clubhouse has been improved and expanded over the years however the bleachers still remain and there is a shortage of basic facilities.
There has been much more work done at Fenway. Part of the reason the Cubs hired Theo Epstein was due to his experience of being at the Red Sox during those renovations and the desire to do something similar in Wrigleyville.
Wrigley Field is outdated and a little bit of a dump, similar to Odsal in that regard. This coming from a Bulls supporter.

But Fenway is a very popular park with fans with a feel for nostalgia!am I right?Cititezens bank ball park in Philly is quite new and the club has never looked back since they moved their from sharing veterans stadium with the Eagles

Now that was a crap stadium! The astroturf (and most of the rest of the ground) was literally falling apart at the seams

| Both Fenway and Wrigley are extremely popular. There are always coachloads of people coming in from all over the Midwest to sample baseball at Wrigley because it's like watching baseball in surrounds from a bygone era. Many Cubs fan love the place too for it's nostalgic qualities.
Everybody realises the need to modernise and there are those who would prefer a shiny, new stadium out in the suburbs although they are in the minority.
Fenway Park seems to have struck the the balance between making improvements that benefit the average fan's experience and increasing revenue whilst maintaining the essence and structure of the old ballpark. Wrigley is behind in making those steps, it's a question of funding.

| The Vet was a dump, not only was the turf the worst in sports but there was a major problem with rats, not to mention the jail!

| What works for one may not work for another though. I would loathe Leeds to move away from Headingley, but the time may come when it makes more sense to move away than accept mediocre the concessions.

How long is it going to take to bring Headingley up to scratch?I cant see the ginnel end ever going to get done either. Its ok saying buy the houses etc even if they did after the struggle to get planning permission they will never get it for a stand so close to that Street.so if we stay at Headingley that end will always be open imo

| Supporters in general are slow to accept change but soon get used to it. Yankee Stadium was demolished and a better facility built over the road. That's the way of the world.

I don;t see why we think a new stadium is needed or even feasible. We have a good stadium in a good location. We can upgrade it as necessary. We are hardly likely to walk away from headingley afetr investing a large wedge into the Carnegie stand in the last 5 years.
People may like these shiny new stadia, but personally I think most new grounds are souless, and have a limited atmosphere.'"
Would agree with all of the above

Sometimes it's better and more cost efficient to flatten everything and start again or move to a different location completely. That seems to be the case with Odsal too although the chances of anything positive being done there seem minuscule.

Problem with Odsal is they dont own the place to start with ,and the council cant even get investers to develop the city centre

There are too many problems regarding Odsal to write about. The same applies to the City itself and the Council.

| Quote: lionarmour87 "Most Major league baseball clubs have had new grounds built, but there are two who have kept their old traditional ones.Fenway park of the Boston Redsox is the most favoured ballpark among fans they have kept to the old fasioned appearance ,but modernised the inside, same thing with Wrigley field in Chigago'"
I mentioned upthread that you can't really make the comparison with new urban baseball parks, because 1) They have 81+ games a season with which to fill the coffers, and 2) Civic Councils can be shoehorned into funding on the prospect that they'll have a future income stream from increased local sales tax for hotels/shops/restaurants. Neither of those conditions are present in UK RL, and any development would have to involve somebody willing to write off a hell of a lot of money.
On another note, I went to the Vet often in the early 90's. It did have an Odsal vibe about it. There was also something Bradfordian about the post-match journey changing onto the 15th St. trolley.

The end is near for Andy Reid I reckon. With all the money that has been invested in that team they need a return. Sean McDermott sorely missed IMO. Reid is losing the players. A loss against against the Giants and that could be it.
