I cant believe they've offered Hughes a new deal. The guy looks average at best in League One and he's only gonna be even worse in the Championship. He's coming to the end of his career, he's slow, he's versatile and that's why Larry will of kept him but he's $hit in every position he can play. We need 2 new full backs and Bromby and Parker can cover injuries.

Whilst I'd agree with your assessment and am surprised he hasn't been released, I'd assume he's a decent guy to have around the place in terms of team spirit, attitude and influence; and as a player you can have on the bench as emergency cover for full backs or midfield he's cheap and provides some continuity during a period where there could be quite a few ins and outs. |

He's had a great season at Carlisle but i was hoping for a long term solution rather than short term. Still i bet we get him, he's free and most of our targets will be players OOC this summer so Bates doesn't have to dip into the nice big kitty he's built up since coming here. That will be staying in his own personal bank account with much more going in this season.
From the reports in the YEP and from Sky that i've seen so far we want Nick Montgomery from Sheff Utd whose OOC, Ian Harte whose OOC, Paul Hayes from Scunny whose now joined Preston, he was also OOC and Daniel Bogdanovic from Barnsley who is also surprise surprise, OOC.
We'll end up with aload of $hite again and if we struggle early on Grayson will be sacked but if he's no money to spend we cant expect anything other than to struggle. The current squad was struggling in League One and now we've released players and loan players have gone back we'll need to get plenty of players in but more importantly we need to bring quality in to go with the $hite we have already. Every team have $hite players in there but we've got a full team off it ATM with not much quality at all. I'd like to see players like Billy Sharp and Gary Hooper brought in but also players who might be prepared to drop down from the PL, players like James Beattie, Liam Lawrence who cant get a game hardly in the PL. I know wages will be a problem but if we want to get back to the big time we've got to bring better players in. We'll also need a new keeper with Casper going, Higgs wont get throught all next season without getting injured so a good keeper will have to be brought in.

He'd have been free and presumably snubbed the deal on the basis that the wage offer was too low?
Ouch.
I'd agree with trying to attract some premiership fringe players who'll drop the division for regular football at a big club that's back on the up - like Sterland, Strachan, Chapman and Fairclough did.
