Actually, apparently Francis Matthews aka Paul Temple / The voice of the original Capt. Scarlet was born in York ... But that's still Yorkshire.

Isn't the original Jack Shephard aka TV's Wycliffe born in Leeds (or Otley, which is a Leeds Post Code) ?

Actually, come to mention it, the other Jack P Shephard from Corrie was born in Leeds, so when it comes to famous Shephards, we've got flocks !

There's always Joseph Priestley who discovered Oxygen in Leeds and without which Wire would be choking far more often ?

And least we should mention the Admiral's succesful gameshow TV appearance ....

Wasn't Priestley was working in Wiltshire not Leeds when he "discovered" Oxygen? (Britons will say it was Priestley, the French will say it was Lavoisier).

He had, however, previously moved from Warrington to Leeds and in doing so invented the M62.

A distinct lack of live music venues throughout the 60s and 70s saw off that era, very few small venues for local bands to kick start in and the only large venues for touring bands being the Queens Hall (probably the worst music venue for acoustics in the country) and the Town Hall - both of which had a 96db limit slapped on them in the early 70s thus writing them off for any band worth its entrance money.

If you wanted to see a decent band in that era you went to the Uni refectory or another city, it was like Footloose before that awful film was even thought of.
