I don’t think either were a debacle and i can guarantee the players whi won either think that.'"
I think you’re missing everyone’s point on last seasons CC win.
No one is belittling the CC or what is needed to win it.
And of course a trophy is a trophy. I’m sure we all celebrated.
But last season was not a normal season.
We only played 3 games to win the CC!
Come on, hardly the foundations for a trophy laden era is it.

| Quote: Shabino "Erm you can. They changed the rules mid season, teams were dodging tough away ganes and making use of Covid rules. Was not a full season. Final not played in theatre of dreams, and downgraded to Hull!
CC was only comp that was won in the way it was intended. SL waa ruined by Covid changes...
But besides that we have won more than Wigan, Hull and Wire in past 2 years which ain't a bad achievement...'"
Are you for real?
The CC as played in the way intended?
We come in at QF stage and play 3 games to win it.
Ridiculous comment.

How many games do you usually have to win to win the CC? 4?
The point being we won the games we had to, the rest didn’t and if we were that poor of a side how come nobody beat us to the trophy?
Im not saying the CC win means everything is rosy and were where we need to be but theres a few on here just wave it away as a nothing achievement

| Quote: christopher "To say we are no better than when Furner was here is some top class revisionism.
Sinfield did employ Furner but as any good director would do made a very difficult decision admit he’d made that mistake and did something about it.
That set us back and we have had a pandemic, which has plainly affected the recruitment and retention process. This coupled with an unprecedented injury situation has led to a poor start to the season, but if you think The team under Furner with as many injuries would have competed as well as we have (nearly knocking saints out of the cup without any half backs) then Im sorry but your either blinkered or being disingenuous (IMO)'"
I do agree with a fair bit of Brodies post but also you make some good points Christopher, let’s also not forget the timing of Covid crisis right when we’ve just paid a fortune for a new stadium rebuild

I would have thought as someone who has had to navigate through the pandemic as a business owner Brodie might have realised how difficult it was and not just wave it away as me saying its an ‘excuse’ it has been difficult for anyone running a business let alone one the size of the leeds club and as you say it came at a terrible time for the club having just rebuilt the stadium.
Thinking it won’t have affected recruiting and retention is ridiculous imo.

Don't think it effected retention and recruitment that much. We did incredibly well to get Tet, and King looks like a good player to me....

Wigan , Saints , Wire, Cas, Hull and Cats have done well with their recruiting and retention. No problems with them Chris. This seems to be becoming your page Christopher.

Maybe they have, doesn’t negate my point that it has affected ours, especially with retention.
Are you able to post without a childish dig?

| Quote: The Eagle "I have no loyalty to Long, but I don't see what he can do. With no halves to work with he's got a job on. People in here seen to think you can slap a 6 shirt on someone, and with a couple of a training they'll be able to do the job.
You could turn Gale into a prop overnight, so why expect the opposite. The skills are not compatible. The game has clearly been to make the best of the situation, but the team gets slaughtered for running on the 5th.
With Gale now back, and others joining him as he gets back up to speed we'll hopefully see a bit more structure. If not, and it's still rubbish then absolutely Long needs to take some flak'"
Its not just a case of having your halfbacks available and the play will work, its also doing the basics right on the early tackles to put yourself in a position for your set plays to work, forwards hitting certain parts of the field to manipulate numbers on tackles 1,2,3 etc...Not necessarily bursting tackles but drawing in numbers, we'r terrible at doing that and thats coaching imo. Our pack make good yards but theres no plan to it, no direction when we start sets in good field position...Then we put that 2 option, left edge play on regardless of wether we'v worked the numbers to enable it to work or not, which very often we havnt.
I agree getting a settled halves pairing and FB will improve execution of our plays, but for me, what we do on tackles 1,2,3...hitting certain areas of the field in good field position sets to work numbers, needs to improve massively, and that can be done with good, clear coaching and with the players currently available.

| If it were as simple as simply putting good attacking structures in place, there'd never be any need to sign or produce better players.
Having different pivots and 3/4s every week is always going to have a detrimental effect on the attack, it shouldn't be understated.

King Solomon could not have spoken wiser words....
Good players actually require very little coaching..!

Having good structure in place can have a beneficial effect when having to slide lesser players into your team and still allowing your attack to function, it shouldnt be understated.
Can work both ways and the answers somewhere in the middle, a good team needs both. Still early days but for me, theres enough ability and the platform/field positions there for our attack to be better than it is at the moment.

They had a load of crap players under Cunningham, Holbrook signed Ben Barber!
BEN Barber would have made Cunninghams Saints look a bit better than Matty Smith!
