| That because he's usually in the treatment room for weeks on end. He can have the man of aluminium and digestive biscuits award.

And as for the players voting, well I have a view on that. Too much club bias, too much personal bias. It's not a popularity contest, making players responsible for voting adds a huge element of that. Independent adjudication would be my choice.'"
wouldnt teh fact that every player in every team getting to vote sort of correct for a bias, or at least dilute it a little?

| I think the award became further meaningless last year when they gave it to Hodgson who is the least deserving "man of steel" I can recall in years.

You can't vote for a player from your own club, so as to avoid club bias.
Players are professional enough that they know who has been the best player they've come up against, the huge majority aren't going to just vote for who their friends are.
Surely having every player vote is better than a panel of journalists decide.
Quote: DHM "Before the players decided MoS and it was still the press, were there any outstanding leeds players in those years we won the title?
Not really. We had a whole bunch of players who performed well, but no one consistently stood out as outstanding. Burrow would be amazing one week, peacock the next, sinfield after that. None of our players were consistently brilliant. But you see, that's why we kept winning titles. We didn't rely on one or 2 outstanding players, but we were a team, with everyone chipping in.
'"
Absolutely, said pretty much the same a few days ago. The reason you have been so strong and at the top for so long was because you had a collective group of quality players, and very rarely relied on 1 person.

| Still funny how the 'fulcrum argument' only appears to apply to the Leeds club though.
__________
The last time Leeds really relied on one person was in Iestyn Harris' days - and he won Man Of Steel.
The time before that was Garry Schofield - and he won Man Of Steel also.
For those who crave Man Of Steel recognition (for Leeds - I couldn't care less personally) perhaps that's the route to go down again?

I don't crave it and I don't go to bed crying that we haven't been recognised but it's still worthy of comment that it seems wrong that our lads haven't been recognised.

| Deserved winner for me...he's been consistent over the season scored a sackfull of points and has been one of Wigans stand out players...plus neither of the Tomkins got the award which is an added bonus.
I also think that in 2004 and last year the gong could have gone to a Leeds player as we too had a standout season being top of the league and SL champions; for 2007 & 2008 Saints were the best team throughout the season but unfortunately for them came up short when they met us in the GF. (The scoreline in 2007 was a surprise to most people)

I think it lost all credibility when it was inexplicably given to Roby.
