| Quote christopher="christopher"Oh give over, we’ve had a bad start to the season and had a few tough years on the field but the club is in a healthy state, we’ve got a world class Rugby stadium nearly finished, were in a healthy state business wise, we’ve got a great crop of youngsters coming through, if you look at where we are now to where we were in 1996 were in a much better position to rebuild the first team playing squad but to say its a sad period for the club is utterly ridiculous IMO'"
I was just going to say give over myself. Couldn’t give a crap about stadium myself, and think it has distracted us, but whilst I feel the squad is not good enough, I actually think we are in a better position now than 2016, and we won the GF the year after. It’s not doom and gloom long term, just now. This period was always coming, and it was always going to take time to rectify the McDermott latter years. People under estimated the damage he was doing along with the rest of management of the club, and this was continually pointed out by fans. This is what we are seeing the results of now.

| If we signed the boot, his salary wouldn't count on the cap for the first year of his contract, would it?

That’s a rule for RU players coming to SL. Re: the boot...he would be exempt from all quotas due to his circumstances at Widnes but as far as I know his salary would still be on our cap

I agree we are in a better position than 2016 because we are doing something about the situation and IMO it is quite refreshing to see the management team being honest about it.
I care about the stadium but more from a business point of view, the extra facilities will bring in a lot of revenue. I do agree it's probably distracted the management team a bit though, but it needed doing at some point.

| I have posted before that this is a very sad time for such a great club. The people who took us to the top are now taking us down to the depths.(Take note GH&SirKev).Yes we appear to have a great academy but that will take 5years to come to fruition if they all make it.

| Hubris pure and simple. Too much self congratulation and not enough critical assessment. There's no other way to explain the ridiculous contracts handed out to clearly sub par players.

| Lolohea given a three year deal as stand off whilst playing full back in reserve grade looks like being another awful decision.

| We desperately need one, ideally two class players ASAP. Priority 1 has to be a prop, releasing Mitch Garbutt has been a serious mistake. Priority 2 a half back, ours are rubbish.

For a large part of last year he couldn't even make the Wests reserve grade, he is absolutely shocking.

| Yes still need one really good prop, might need to let one or two current squad props go because Holroyd et al deserve opportunities now.
One back rower; again a really good one. If we retain Merrin we have him, Ward, Smith, the +1 and then Trout etc coming through.
Half back - I’d like to see McLelland given a chance. There is an argument for another and to change both existing...
Then wing I think - not sure Handley is ever going to cut it in D.
So for me probably 4 players short. It’s the quality, not the numbers.
We’re not as cataclysmic as all that, but it’s time to let a bunch of players go; anyone beyond a certain age who isn’t critical, anyone who isn’t offering more than an Academy alternative, anyone with an attitude problem.

| Half back and second row are our biggest weaknesses. Sure we are short at prop, but those other positions offer us absolutely nothing, and it is where other teams have an edge.

| Giving Sutcliffe et al an extended opportunity to develop into their roles has surely gone now.
