I don't think his new club, whoever it may be, will be to enamored at him playing in the Boxing Day Challenge when they would want him top play in their own BD game. What would happen if his knee went again? His new team would be due a big payout from his insurance!

I would imagine it will be a token performance. nice touch, would be a shame for the last time we saw him in a leeds shirt was hobbling off injured. And it will probably add a few onto the gate

I wouldn't expect the Boxing Day appearance to be an 80 mins stint , wether it be against Wakey , or a SuperLeague club .
Have broken the news to a few ladies I know . They are heart-broken that he is leaving . One even said she will follow him to his next team should he make such a move .

Thanks for everything Keef . A true modern-day legend of English Rugby League . You will be missed by many .

The best British centre of the Super League era without a doubt and a key player in our run of success between 2004 and 2009. However, the right decision by the club. I would have re-signed him only on the understanding that he would be on less money and wouldn't necessarily be in the first 17, effectively he'd be a squad player. Reading between the lines that's what the club offered and he refused. So, end of an era, yes, but the first right decision on retention of players for 2012 for me.

Keith will rightly be regarded as not only a Rhinos legend but also a SL legend too

I will remember with great fondness of just how good he was in his prime, he was always our main "go-to player" when we were chasing a game, because when he was on song he was a handful for any defense to contain

I hope that he fully recovers from his injury and that a change of club will re-invigorate him so that he can play for yet another 2 seasons at the very least

While Senior is second on a few of the more notable Leeds SL Era lists (overall Appearances and Tries) he tops the one for most Starts for the club with 363 to Sinfield's 358 - for a while longer at least.

Both currently share the most Play Off (24) and most Challenge Cup Appearances (40)

Keith Senior: Leeds SL Era

Regular Rounds: Played 295 + 2, Tries 152, Points 608
Play-Offs: Played 24 + 0, Tries 7, Points 28
Challenge Cup: Played 40 + 0, Tries 11, Points 44
World Club Challenge: Played 4 + 0, Tries 1, Points 4

Total: Played 363 + 2, Tries 171, Points 684

Quote: Sibbs Rhinos "Also a new question is raised, replaced by Watkins, or an external recruit? Bearing in mind his wages would have only counted half because of his long service to the club iirc, so there will not be a large chunk of cap made available with his departure.'"

I think the Rhinos need a quality replacement as Watkins needs a bit more time before playing week in and week out.The right signing will help develop him, BJB and Hardaker. I hope GH has someone lined up as there is now space under the salary cap. Even more space if Ali goes and Buderus returns to Newcastle. Any names being mentioned!

Time to apply some perspective to the career of Keith Senior.

Was he the best 'British' centre at Leeds during the SL era? YES. Brad Godden was better but he was Australian.

Was he the best 'British' centre during the SL era? Arguably YES, on the basis of his longevity during the SL era, along with his consistency and injury-free record. Connolly and Newlove were better centres but their careers were split between pre-SL and SL era's so I'm prepared to discount them.

Was he the best centre in the Leeds Blue & Amber ever? NO. Of those I've seen, Hynes, Dyl, Currie, Innes, Godden, Iro (when he could be bothered), Gibson, Bell, Stephenson, Schofield, Cunningham were all better centres.

Senior's assets were his strength and his unrefined, no frills, biff and barge approach in attack along with his injury-free record of appearances. His liabilities were his lack of refined skills, average passing ability, his dodgy 'turn your back' defensive technique and his reluctance to take any responsibility under pressure from a high ball.

In a SL era characterised by dross (particularly in the backs), Senior has at least stood at the top of the British pile for over a decade. Good luck to him in his future endeavours... he's earned it.

Are you talking Dean Bell who had one season in 83-84? Creasser was better that year. That was the pre-NRL Dean Bell. Senior was also better than Carl Gibson in the centres for Leeds at least. You're also seriously downplaying his big game performances for Leeds (way better than Iro who unfortunatley seemed to be bothered about once every 4 games), and the fact that at his peak the Aussies did actually rate him. His biggest deficiency for me was defence at international level - he never looked comfortable unless someone ran straight at him. Any kind of movement or question over which player to go for and he looked stranded. He certainly never looked a natural in the way Schofield did. Having said that, as far as Leeds goes, for longevity and his record, he is right up there with the best we've had.
