| Quote KaeruJim="KaeruJim"On that basis would you also get rid of Dwyer then? Or does Corey need another year or two before first team appearances?
Wingers - I don’t think they are our biggest issue by some distance. I think Briscoe has been playing well for a while now in a struggling side, although I’d like to see him getting more meat pies. Handley - he can finish, and outside a good centre he’ll get points. Whether he can defend or take a high ball, I suspect we will find out.
I think we just need better quality all round in the pack. I can live with Merrin but generally it needs a sweep.'"
I would let go, simply because Corey will be a better number two, and Dwyer IMO isn’t good enough to be a number one. Still a good player though, but should go for one of the other clubs as first choice.
Our wingers are crap. Neither can defend, or position correctly. Don’t think they have the heart for it. And I was a very big Briscoe fan. And I should say to be fair, neither could Hall defend either.

I'm guessing a hooker would have to come from NRL because all the good ones in SL are tied up to top clubs already, unless we made a bid to get McShane back with his previous at Leeds. And in that case, we may as well retain Parcell for another season or two unless we can find a better value player.
Agree re. Johnson, I really like him.
Briscoe had a great tackle against Saints I think it was, almost Tallis-and-Hodgson-esque, but he isn't great under the high ball and does get pulled out of position too often. Again though, I wouldn't be swapping him any time soon because there are far worse problems in the side. I was a bit disappointed we didn't land Kyle Feldt actually - but realistically if an NRL club is interested in a player, it's extremely difficult for a SL club.

| We should never waste an import slot on a winger. I'd say Handley looks Dodgier than Briscoe - he's slow off the mark but not big enough to bust through defenders.
The basic problem is we still have too many really poor forwards - Peteru, Cuthbertson and Singleton are all bottom of the table players for mine.

I agree to a degree on import slots, but then again our best wingers have usually been imports, to have a Marcus Bai available now would be great.
However, regardless, it doesn’t mean you settle for rubbish. We have good non import wingers in our comp. Wigan have four better than ours. Saints have one who can’t get a game.

| I don't think wingers are a biggest concern right now and IMO Brisco and Handley have been playing quite well. They are pushed in defence from our other frailtys inside them and being left in no mans land more often than not. Not often been pushed in a direct 1 on 1 situation. As for Ferres i think he is coming in for some harsh critisicim this year and is playing the best that he has done for us so far, still a long way off England standard that we thought that we had bought but if he keeps improving he could be in for a good season, or at least the best he has had for us.
This rebuild is going to have setbacks throgh the year and lets hope that the Wakefield game was a blip on an otherwise improving side.

I didn't suggest he was an answer. I was stating how crap ours are, and you confirm with that statement, as he is still better than we have.

| A lot of people are seeing it as a given that some of these academy players are nailed on first team players for 2020-2021 or less, think people are getting carried away. whilst it appear to be the best crop for some time, from what i have seen only Holroyd and Trout look the real deal, the others are great prospects but are no where near where they need to be yet, and some of them may never step up above academy championship level. Lots of rugby and improvement to be made yet, likes of newman yeah looks great at academy level and companionship looked cruelly out of his depth in first team, players like that who have always had it easy in there age groups often struggle when the come up against bigger less movable opposition. some of the best players are not starts at academy level, its their determination and application from 18-19 to 20-22 where they really start to shine.
we had a decent crop around 6-7 years ago. Minchella robbie ward Mulhearn alex foster lilley baldwinson and a few others around that time, none are with us anymore and half are not in the top flight and the ones that are are nothing more tan squad players (mulhearn done well though).

I'd happily stick with our 2 over Swift he's no improvement whatsoever.
If we're looking to replace incumbents at least make them an upgrade Swift is woeful in every aspect except he runs fast.

| We used to play with 4 props on the field at the same time, one of them used to line up on the left wing.
We have issues with hard yards go forward and defence, and unless we pick up a Ryan Hall, we should focus on fixing other areas.
If we were to fix other areas and then go Winger shopping, I’d be looking on Wigan.
