Does the Talk Talk freeview box come with a built in hard drive?
Both answers would need to be yes before I could consider leaving Sky - which is something I'd consider doing if I could get the same for less elsewhere.'"
'Fraid the Skysport channels are only 1,2,3,4 &F1, so not yet to your first point, although all BBC & ITV HD channels are available at present, so fingers crossed for SkySportHD in the future.
Second point - 200hrs of memory available - by the way, it's a "YouView" box.
Good luck to all those who, like me, can no longer afford Sky.

| I don't really get the whole HD thing. Maybe my telly is too small?
I have the usual freesat range of HD channels, and to be brutally honest, I can't see any difference. If I had the two next to each other maybe I would, or if I had one of those epic huge chav TVs occupying half a wall.
One day in the not too distant future everything will be HD, but I'm unlikely to go out of my way for it.
But then I also don't watch enough TV to warrant paying for anything more than my TV license, which probably makes me not the best person to comment.
I'll shut up shall I?

You're not alone in finding the whole HD thing a case of "The Emporers New Clothes", I can't see a difference at all on a brand new TV with Virginmedia cable attached - the only time when I have seen a noticable difference was on F1 when BBC1 were providing coverage and I was flicking between Virgin HD and the TV set's own built-in Freeview HD channel - the Freeview channel via my aerial was clearer which has resulted in constant calls from me to bin Virgin's TV service and just go to Freeview.
With three females in the house I get voted down every time for the MTV screaming women channels aren't on Freeview.

You're lucky. I can think of several women who take a less-than enlightened view of their spouses subscribing to screaming women channels.

When you remember VHF 425 lines and black and white on an aerial made from a coathanger then its all relative.

| The impact of HD depends on several things. One is the size of your TV. Mine is 37 inches and is comfortable hsowing non-HD programs. the bigger the TV, the bigger the problem.
The other issue is to do with the type of program you are watching. Sports are typically worst affected as there is a lot of movement, and the compression of the signal is done in realtime. This is why if you watch football there can be fuzzyness around the players, and I guess the same thing as mentioned in the f1 above.
So as a result if you spend all day watching sports on a massive TV, then your probably worth getting HD, if you only watch cartoons on a small tv, then probably dont

Just a thought - it might be cheaper to invest in some new glasses than buying into the "HD thing".
Or you could go to a pub and watch things in 3D (what a waste of time the 3D thing is....

Since when did having a big TV become a chav thing? lol. It may also be the specs of your tv or free view box. I notice the difference massively if a rugby game isn't on HD.

| My main TV's are 40" and 42" which is probably why I'm a little obsessive about watching TV content in HD to the point where if it's only in SD I almost can't bare to watch it.
I don't watch that much TV but it's HD when I do.

| Anyone else noticed the poor picture quality on channels broadcast in SD on the Sky platform in comparison to the same channels broadcast in SD on freeview? If you can bear watching SD channels on Sky for long enough, you end up wondering if the same SD channels on freeview are in HD!
I'm sure it's not Sky's policy to deliberately downgrade the picture quality of their SD channels in order to make their HD channels appear more appealing so that folk will pay an extra monthly premium for HD. No, really.
I haven't paid full price for Sky for years. When I do subscribe, it's usually on the basis of a 12 month half price deal, or, if I get really lucky, a 75% off deal for 12 months. I recently ditched when my 12 month discounted deal expired and Sky didn't offer me another. Might have to wait 3 to 6 months for another offer.
But until then? See you later Sky
For those who cannot live without HD, Sky are the obvious choice. They have more HD channels and they are the cheapest, and particularly so if you bundle the phone, internet and TV together. Their prices are outrageous but Virgin's prices are even more so. They entice new customers with a cheap 6 month deal prior to hitting them in the pocket at full price over the next 12 months of their lengthy 18 month contracts, and I don't subscribe to 18 month contracts... not now, not ever.
I'm currently paying BT the equivalent of £27.75 per month (12 month contract) for phone line, anytime calls, unlimited broadband and BT Sport channels in HD. Then there's the negotiated £12 deal for Premier Sports over the next 6 months.

| Seriously people, anyone who can't tell the difference between an HD broadcast and an ordinary one needs a new TV, or a visit to Specsavers.
My 55 inch Samsung has a simply chavtastic HD picture......

I agree, can't wait for the 3D channel out here just hoping all the rugby is on it. The simulated 3D is good enough when its full 3D it should be epic.

You have a 55" Samsung?
I bet you live on Benefits Street!
The Daily Mail told me to say that.
