| Quote: Sir Kevin Sinfield "They aren’t the easy beats many people were expecting, they’ve just won against Wigan.
I won’t say the Hull game is a must win game, with all the snowflakes crying when I said Wakefield was must win, those fans must still think we can win the league leaders shield.'"
I think the point is we didn’t think we could win the league leaders shield before the season kicked off. It’s about expectations. All I wanna see is improvement from last year and building towards next.
And it wasn’t just after the Wakefield game. It was after nearly every game last year and carrying on this. It’s boring.
If you think we have any chance of winning the grand final (Which I don’t). Then Leeds need to finish 5th. Last year Wakefield finished 5th with 13 wins, a draw and 16 losses. So yes saying after 3 losses this season, the next game is a must win is Ludicrous.

Indeed.
I am fairly confident that Sneyd will be ok. He finished the game and continued to contribute. I can't see Connor making it though. Apparently he came out for the second half with lots of strapping and was waving to the bench almost immediately. Probably felt ok when it was strapped up in the changing room, but not when he started trying to run. I just hope it's not going to be long term.
Shaul got a head knock against Wigan and failed his assessment during the week. Again, I would like to think it's nothing too serious and that he will be back for you, but you never know, and can never be too careful with head injuries. I'm not sure who will play FB. Miloudi is the natural replacement, but Radford doesn't really trust him, and with good reason tbf. He is the most rocks and diamonds player I think I have ever seen. Griffin seemed to be a revelation there today, so maybe he will get the nod.
The good news for us was that Kelly came through unscathed.

It's a good time to play Leeds at home I think. We're in some disarray with so many changes to the team from last year, some key players out of form and injured. I expect we will get better as the year goes on, confidence notwithstanding, but we're very up and down at the minute. If you can take us on down the middle and shut down Hurrell, you've pretty much got us.

| Tell you what, the league table already looks pretty ugly for Leeds after the loss to Wakefield. We can’t be too complacent here thinking that things will magically get better, we could end up in relegation dogfight unless we pick up some early wins. Few more injuries and memories of 2018 will be flooding back...
We do look structurally a bit better this year, except for that right hand side in D.

If we lose our next two games (Hull and London) relegation could be a possibility

| If we play like we did at Salford and Saints we will win most games. There really is no need to panic.
We are going to be inconsistent cos the team isn't good enough and needs time to gel.
We're a midtable team that will finish midtable.

| If you look at the performance against Saints then you might say mid-table. Warrington or Wakefield, maybe not.
On balance the performances have been encouraging.
Furner’s job is bloody difficult I have to say. He’s not under pressure as such, but he is trying to make a silk purse from a sow’s ear at times.

If we are to finish mid table we would need to win 50% of our games. So far we have won 20%. Pre-season we were certainly aiming much higher than mid table.

| We've played Warrington, Saints and Wigan away so I wouldn't expect us to be at 50%. If you was aiming higher that's your issue I seem to remember Sinfield saying on more than one occasion it was going to take time and it clearly will. The club is being honest with fans if the fans choose to ignore those words with ideas of winning league leaders shields etc when the team is clearly not at the level at the moment they are deluded.
The team is stronger than last season, the style of rugby is better than last year but is not at the required level for a top team at the moment. We are in rebuild mode and it will take time.
Support the team at it's low points and enjoy the good times when they return.

Last year Huddersfield finished 6th by winning 13 games, drawing 1 and losing 16. That’s about 43% of games won.
This year we’ve lost against last year’s champions, last year’s league leaders and the favourites to win this year all away from home. We beat Salford. Then lost to Wakefield with a shocking performance, however they have finished 5th the last two seasons and I expect them to be above us this year.

| The irritating thing is that at times our attack has actually been better than I anticipated. I'd assumed - wrongly - that Furner, particularly being an aussie, would concentrate on making our defence watertight a top priority. Had he got defence nailed we'd already be looking at a very useful team with much more to come.

It's probably fair to say we'll need to win around half of our games in order to finish around mid table, and it's also fair to say our current form doesn't quite support that. Whether or not Leeds improve more quickly than everyone else, we will see over the next couple of months.
Referring to Warrington, Saints and Wigan - well yes it's true to say they were last year's thises and thats, but that was last year. I've never known a season where all teams finish in exactly the same positions in consecutive seasons. Warrington and Saints do look good - but Cas are again leading the way early doors, and the one time we've faced them we also lost.
My point is, where are the "easy" games? We are going to need the occasional result against "last seasons...." in order to finish mid-table, because it's highly unlikely we'll beat London, Salford, Huddersfield, Catalans, HKR/Hull in both home and away fixtures. Saints game aside, we are still not looking really competitive against the better sides yet.
I'm certainly not panicking and personally feel we should end up away from the bottom places this year, but equally we shouldn't take anything for granted because the wheels and the sides of the wagon were off by the end of last season, and clearly there's still much to do.
