| IMO Powell is a top bloke and a very decent coach. Things didn't go his way at HQ, but he was dropped into one of the biggest coaching jobs in SL. He's learnt his craft since that shaky start and has done a brilliant job with Cas. They will be there or there abouts next season and I reckon for a good few seasons thereafter. I'm happy enough with BM, but if at some point in the future DP was announced as his successor, which I doubt will ever happen, I'd be happy to see him back at HQ

| Cas rubbed a lot of folk up the wrong way last year.
It will be interesting to see if they can have the same impact now teams will be gunning for them every game next season.

I was surprised by how many neutrals wanted a Leeds win in the GF pre game as they wanting Cas knocking down a peg or two from the cockiness people saw in them last year. Whilst the majority of neutrals still preferred a Cas win it wasn't as much of landslide especially considering Cas have been most people's 2nd team for a few years now and Leeds winning has been done to death for most neutrals.
Next season for them I think depends on the start, they carry on where they left off in the league then the runaway momentum and confidence that oozed out of their performances in 2017 with repeat. A hit & miss start or even a poor one then could very much start to feel like they missed their one great chance and might not be able to repeat it.

Does Powell have the same will to win - he certainly did as a player that will be the test. Next season will be a good test of Powell's skill set'"
I'm sure he has the will but can he learn how to coach a team to put in a final winning performance? Leeds know how to play finals and is often a far cry to how we try and play during the season. Cas tried to play the GF pretty much the same as a league game and hope to blitz us with tries early as shown by the refusal of kickable penalties. As good as Cas' league performances were you hardly ever see those types of performances in finals.

plus Powell had all the resources mcdermott had at Leeds and failed to win anything over 3 years. Powells a great coach but he is no better than Mcdermott and arguably not has good.'"
I like Powell and the rugby he had Cas playing last season. But...my mate, who's a Fev fan, made a good point that Powell has a habit of walking it through the season but failing in finals. It'll be really interesting to see how he gets them going this year

They certainly did rub folk up when they got a bit too cocky and developed their swagger
Didn't see Galey strutting his swagger at OT though

Gale was the epitome of a bad winner throughout last season imo, some of his interviews and prancing about like a proud peacock were way too cocky for someone who up to that point was 29 and hadnt done anything worth bragging about In his whole career. You'd of thought he was wally lewis the way he was prancing about. In 15 years of consitantly winning i cant remember any instance of burrow or sinfield showing such admiration for thereselves as gale did last season.
On the other hand i really like darryl powell, think he's a brilliant coach. If and When mcdermott takes up a new challenge , powell would be the person id want to replace him.
On topic, if aston develops well under powell then fair play to him and cas. He was never going to play regularly for us,it was the right call to let him go and try his luck sumwhere else. We cant keep everyone out of fear that powell will develop them into quality players.

| I'm probably of a different view here. I think we need to produce more half backs who are cocky gits. All of GB's best in my lifetime have seemed incredibly 'self assured' - Gregory, Edwards, Goulding and Schofield were never short of self belief. If we're ever going to beat Australia we need halfbacks who aren't fazed by the opposition and who believe the team is 'theirs' when on the field.
Even if they're not actually that great as players, I really don't have a problem with players swaggering about - we need more characters in the game IMO, sometimes SL seems very sanitised from that perspective. There's nothing wrong with cartoon baddies - see a certain Mr Bailey as a prime example. Every club should have one.

Cocky or not, Dorothy Gayle isn’t in the same class as the aforementioned half backs of yore.

Swagger & attitude are all well & good but at some point you have to back it up in a big game/final otherwise it's just wind & p!$h ala Brough.

| Nothing wrong with having cartoon baddies and cocky g1ts, but part of the appeal of that is slating them when they fail.

yep those mentioned were ripping it up as teenagers, Schofield was golden boot, man of steel, top try scorer, well on his way to all time Gb caps, ripping it up in ARL, whilst gale was still playing in championship.
