Your job is to say to yourself on a job interview does the hiring manager likes me or not. If you aren't a particular manager's cup of tea, you haven't failed -- you've dodged a bullet.:icons077e_files/5454-3678dentheman-msnicons.jpg

Quote: Marty Grrrrrrrrrr! "Think all 3 have earmed the right to decide their own retirement if im honest. JJB still grafts every week and im sure he must be a massive asset in the changing room too so i see no need for him to retire just yet.

Burrow still shows class at times, doesnt appear to have lost much pace that i can see. He has taken some hammer over the years but if he wants to play on then he offers impact off bench and can still break a game open.

Maggsy's pace has gone but its a credit to him that hes adapted his game and is a key player from what i see.

All 3 still contribute massively and they are 3 of the greatest weve ever had. If they want to go round again thats fine by me. All 3 will know when its time to stop.'"

Whilst I agree they have all made a massive contribution to the club this is professional sport and as such you cannot have the tail wagging the dog. It isn't fair that players well passed their best prevent opportunities for younger players to progress and maximise their optimum earning years.

So if all three said look we want to play until we are 40 that would be ok with you?

Understand both arguments. It's a tough choice. But when age and niggles and the inability to quite pull off former feats lead to spite and petulance on the field (a la Brent Webb) then I think most plays don't take much longer to recognise when their time's up.

I completely understand the argument that they should retire this season. I just think they've earned enough respect and given enough to this club that they should be given a bit more respect when talking about them or even directly to them.

I'm not too worried about retirements being delayed as I think there'll be some at the season's end.
Equally, I think the announcement will be made at the most strategic time possible in terms of motivating the team - for example, before a cup final or just before the play offs. Following on from the Sinfield-Kylie-JP epic, it's just too good an opportunity to miss.

I don't believe it was in the pre match video the day before the Saints game but in an article online was this part about McGuire from McDermott

"We've got an idea about Danny but it's not for publication just yet," McDermott said.

First two back rowers we need to be moving on are Walters (had his rivet moment and will always be remembered but is ultimately garbage) and Delaney (excellent servant but is done and has been for 2 years).JJB has more than held his own with any of our other back rowers and for me if he wants another year i would give it to him, fully deserved imo on current evidence.

Walters is still getting a game for Fev (so isn't injured) but isn't getting in our 19 anymore. Even Thursday he wasn't anywhere to be seen and Alex Sutcliffe was 18th man so looks likely Walters will be gone at season end.

Looks like McGuire will make 2018 his last apparently, but Burrow will be retiring according to internet rumours.

If McGuire goes round again, I struggle to see where we fit everyone in, even if Burrow retires. You have to assume Myler and McGuire would start if both were around. Maybe Lilley gets Burrow's bench spot? What happens to Sutty as I assume Moon goes back to centre and you have Golding/walker for FB, does Sutty then have to put up with being a non-first choice utility (Maybe 3rd choice fb, 4th choice centre if Keinhorst is fit).

Maybe he moves into the pack, but even then the back row is pretty crowded. FWIW I think his best game this year came in the second row, can't remember who it was against though, but it was at headingley.

I don't think the club should tell JJB or Burrow to leave. But it probably has got to the stage where they need to be understand that from next season they may not be automatic selections, and their performances will be treated as such - i.e. if they're not playing well enough they'll end up playing for Fev or Bradford. If they're genuinely happy to be treated the same as anyone else then they should be welcome to stay. I'd put Ablett in that category as well (his defence can be awful and well below what it should be IMO).

McGuire is slightly different because halfback is so key. TBH that decision may need to be taken out of his hands.

More generally we seem to have too many pointless fillers in the squad - Walters and Delaney ATM, albeit for different reasons, but they also need to firmly decide on the likes of Ormondroyd and Baldwinson as well. There is zero point in having both of these lads hanging around to get 10 minutes every 4 games. The same is true of any of the fringe backs as well - if BM doesn't intend to use them unless its an emergency, lets move on to the next generation of players from the Academy.

Think even if Golding is fully fit Jack Walker deserves to keep his place in the team after the man of the match performance last week.
He has offered more in attack in the few games than Golding has all season and he was almost faultless with his defence too.

Don't worry about avoiding temptation. As you grow older, it will avoid you! - Winston Churchill:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_40515.jpg

Quote: Gotcha "How is it more diplomatic? I said on the last page I told him his time is up and he needs to walk away, that is a has been, as I defined. Not sure what the nickers in a twist is. Some on here think you can't tell people straight, but sorry but I always say how it is. If you watch rugby am this week you may well see the pair of us messing about with the challenge cup trophy, as they were filming.'"

Well I am sure JJB showed his class and answered you with the respect that you didn't show him. He will have met plenty of loud mouthed braggarts before so will have had practice at humouring know-alls that "told him straight"

But though past their best they should continue to play until other players demand their places with consistent quality performances.

Apart from Ward who is a better back rower than JJB? And who covers 9 and 7 and offers the same impact from the bench as Burrow" While we all know our weaknesses at half back and game management that have allowed McGuire to keep his spot when fit.
