| I always wonder why people lump Clyde and Mullins together.
Clyde, when fit, was an excellent player who put in a number of top quality performances - one in a televised game away at Hull sticks in the memory. He was unfortunate with hamstring issues that weren't helped by playing on the heavier grounds of the early season over here.
Mullins was an absolute waste of space, who came here solely with the intention of topping up his bank balance while playing as little rugby as possible.

| Clyde did have a stormer that day at Hull, but did we get value for money? Did we get the consistent level of performance? Yes injuries happen but blaming heavy ground... Shouldn't the club have considered that?
The signings now are so different. It's not unnoticed that the same people gushing over cuthbertson are the same ones who bemoaned his signing as 'not good enough'.

| I agree with Andy. Clyde was fantastic when we could get him out on the pitch. Mullins was a different story, I think one good game as I recall.
Also I have to say, I can not recall one person bemoaning the signing of Cuthbertson when it was made, unless I missed it.

Doubt he gets in their backline at the moment (RTS, Nightingale, Hurrell, Whare, Vatuvai).

| Clyde wasn't helped by have Edgar as the conditioner - Edgar thought every player needed legs as big as his - definitely not an ideal strategy for somebody with dodgy hamstrings.
The game that sticks out for m was a CC game against Cas at Wheldan Rd he marshalled the defence superbly that day.

He has a more all round game than Hurrell - if its true its a serious signing and it does illustrate that Saints is still the top draw in SL for the best NRL talent. They have had some superb overseas players.

| A signing akin to Sia Soliola imv be able to play centre or second row.
Not areas we need to strenthen.
I wonder Wharea Hargreaves fancies a stint in SuperLeague?
With our luck we'll get Chris Heighington.

| Bradley Clyde epitomised where Leeds got it wrong in terms of recruitment. An Aussie who's best years (Canberra Raiders days) were behind him. IIRC he wasnt been selected for Australia past mid 90's and we got him in for early 00's. Think people who look towards his dozen games for Leeds as something significant are mistaken.

Played two tests in the 1997 Australian SL squad that came over here, also played twice for NSW in the SL origin series that year.
Signed for Leeds in 2001, having played 36 games for the Bulldogs in the previous two seasons in Australia.

| We should have been wary of signing Clyde. Two knee reconstructions early in his career were starting to have their predictable effects on his hamstrings. No real surprise when he struggled. However, agree with Andy, a real pro whereas Mullins was an idle sod. Went back to Oz and was suddenly "brilliant" again.

The days of signing players like Clyde, Mullins etc are long gone. The club has moved on dramatically and so has the recruitment process.
Recent signings from oz of Kylie, Donald and now Cuthbertson show a much more thorough and educated approach. If the player, or indeed any player, is deemed good enough we should have faith.

Didn't Mullins return to Australia & win the Grand Final with his new club the following season?

Achurch was signed after very few pro games and was by our own admission 'raw' but agree he hadn't fulfilled his potential. Personal view is he is better out wider - see Schoeys recent article on 2nd rows.
That 'donkey' paid his own airfare and came for a trial. He got found out and left the club. I'd say that was smart by the club. His being here cost nothing.
Stop clutching at straws. Why are you so desperate to disprove the club has moved on, and got better at recruitment - surely that's a good thing!
Perhaps you long for the good ol days of big names and no trophies.
