Just wait in twenty years’ time when DNA becomes more open knowledge to the general public. The Phil Clarkes of the commentary world by then will be analysing the game right down to the wear and tear on the players palm lines. One must wonder how sports thrived without the concept of sports-science been taught at institutions of high intellectual standing.

I am a rugby League man through and through, but wht I admire about certain association football managers is that they wont have any truck with directors of football deciding what players are going to be brought to the club.Surely any coach with any self respect must have his own opinions about who should be signed. It was always going to hard to replace this squad, but there is going to come a time when GH is going to hold his hands up.

I find this an increasingly bizzare view. Why should player signings be down to the coach? A man who normally doesnt last longer than 3 seasons? A coaches view is a short term one whereas a dof or ceo takes a much longer term view as they are designed to stay longer. There are notable exceptions but in reality a coach should only be one voice in the buying and selling process.

Quite, if Garth has demonstrated one skill beyond doubt, it is his ability to buy players that fit into the team. Granted in Adamson and Buderus that process may have been altered slightly but as a rule.
