| Like I say, due to Damos allowance, I probably don't get much more than him every month.
He's not used to work, and if he's leading a comfortable enough life to match his ambitions, then no wonder he's not that fussed in getting work.
I once told him where there was a job and the reply was "I'll let work come to me now, I'm sick of applying". I know he's a wind up merchant and not everything he says on here is his true opinion, however we can only go on what we hear from him on here, and spending 60quid of taxpayers money on alcohol is outrageous. He his a nice enough lad is Damo, but I don't know who is advising him to not get any job. any job is better than no job, surely?
As for Damo having the last laugh, how does he work that one out?
I have no doubt that if Damo did a months work, he would be thinking "why didn't I find work earlier". I felt it absolutely soul destroying, just when I did 12/14 hours, so god knows what's it like been on the dole. Beyond all this internet persona, Damo must be feeling down with the employment situation, however he has to realise there is no perfect job to just walk into.
P.s Damo, if you are reading this. I have done 45hours each week this month in 2 jobs, so I can pay you the 20quid the taxpayer gave you to give to me this month. Just let me know where you want me to meet you.

Bingo.
It's all a matter of perspective vs priority.
If you are happy with your 'Job Seekers Allowance' (there has to be some irony in the name the DWP chose with that one) and feel that it is enough to fulfil your priorities then why bother finding a job? If someone is providing you with a roof over your head, free food and utilities, getting your laundry and cleaning done for you... then great. If someone else is providing you with 'free' money and all you want to do is p[sizei[/sizess it up on a weekend then I guess you're sorted.
Personally I'd prefer to more out of life. My own house, a car, holidays, a decent wardrobe, provisions for my future, a nice motorbike, etc. - which is why I have a job.

| Whilst Damo's original article is essentially full of self pity, there are some valid threads in there that merit discussion. Firstly, why is it that Damo can apply for hundreds of jobs and not get any? Taking that at face values, is it a case of you applying for jobs you are not qualified to do, and there by you are wasting your time? What proportion of these applications resulted in interviews? Some times a bit of help with the whole job application process can yield good results. I always assumed that this was what the Job Centre was supposed to do. I also sympathise with Damo's condition. I know a couple of people with Aspergus and it mkaes a hell of a lot of things that people take for granted difficult. If Damo is getting interviews it wouldn't surprise me that the interviewers are unable to see beyond that.
Another interesting theme is that unfortunately its not always the case that any job is better than no job. no governments in recent times has been able to get the balance of benefits for people out of work right with getting people back into work. I have never been unfortunate enough to be out of work. I was lucky to be born with a decent brain in my head, and worked hard at school & university which set me up for a good career. Not everyone else is as lucky as that. However, if I got £100 a week for doing nothing, or had to clean toilets for £6ph for 15 hours a week, and end up with similar money then I can see why people wouldn't bother.
In terms of there not being jobs, I just don't think thats true. There may not be many jobs, they may not be ones that you want to do, but that is the way of the world. Not everything in life is rosy or indeed fair.
In terms of what Damo spends his money on. Thats none of my business. Its his money no matter where it comes from, so he can do what he wants.
Finally, I don't mind that Damo don't have a job, or whether he is trying to find one or not, they are the rules, and its his entitlement as a member of this country. What I do dislike is the regularlarity with which this topic comes up. I know I don't have to read, or even contribute, but it like touching an electric fence. You know its not a good idea, but you still do it

Damo, you can find a job.
Get some help with your cv. Sugar coat it and dress it up.
Do volunteer work. Got to www.do-it.org.uk/. This will help immensly with your cv and will look good to potential employers. It will also fill spare time, help you meet new people possibly some in the same situation and improve self esteem.
Then, if you start applying for realistic jobs, you will find a job within a few months.
I've given you the best advice I can, if you don't take it, it's your life.

This is the problem in my opinion. Knowing what I do about Damo (limited to the drivel he writes on here and occasional youtube clips, admittedly), he is clearly the type of person who would only be suited to the most menial of tasks. Cleaning etc. which unfortunately most people think is beneath them

| I’ll bite.
I’m not winding up anyone. People are only winding up themselves for what is last week’s news.
Spending money on alcohol is good for the economy. People like me keep bar staff in jobs.
Just remember that cleaning jobs and other ‘menial jobs’ are the product of other people’s laziness. People can’t be ar[is[/ied to clean so they pay someone else a few quid to do it for them. People can’t be ar[is[/ied to cook food so they pay a chef to do a meal for them. I could go on all day.
Oh and the taxpayers mantra is getting so old now. If you don’t want to pay your taxes because by doing so it gives someone else a couple of quid then f[iu[/ick off to the Cayman Islands. Oh wait you can’t because you’re not clever enough to do so. The outspoken taxpayers brigade are just as whingey as the unemployed when it comes to moaning about things. Look no further for proof on this thread. But one group of people is demonised more than the other.
Oh and I’ll be keeping a low profile for a while because I have got work to do. It’s called getting an idea off the ground that has been backed by the deputy PM along with a bunch of other people who have a lot of faith in me. I’d rather not let them down and would rather be letting down the outspoken self-righteous pr[ii[/icks on here who are obsessing over the most minute of problems.
Peace.

It's got nothing to do wiht paying someone else a couple of quid. It's because our taxes should be used on something we also benefit from, i.e. Hospitals, Policing, Education, Pensions, etc. If there was no shortage in those areas, then good luck to your couple of quid.
Your sort of comment is exactly the very reason why they should split the amount of tax that workers pay into two, with one part for the government as they choose to spend it (as they do now for the whole amount), and the other part a choice to be made each month by the tax payer as to how he would like it splitting (between which areas).
You will find if that option was taken, you wouldn't have the choice of deciding what jobs are menial or which are not.

| I know that I have to pay taxes and do so willingly. The taxes I pay help support this country with it's Armed forces, public health service, roads, parks, bin collection, etc. Although I may not like having to give away what I see as a large percentage of my earned income, I simply do so because I know the without taxes we'd be living in a 3rd world country.
I also believe that we should have a welfare state system to help look after and support the most vulnerable and deprived in our society. What narks me is when that system is abused by lazy, idle, indolent, work shy spongers who believe that is their God given right to extract money from a system they have not or have no intention of paying into.
What narks me even more is when said spongers turn around and Lord it up about not having to work and 'what an easy life I have'. To me these people are thieves, steeling money from those who really need it. They are one step away from out and out benefit cheats - they know full well that they could get a job if they could be really bothered but why should they when they have it so easy.
The payments that are made by the welfare state should be used to help those that need it most and not those who intend on p[sizei[/sizessing it against the wall.

Absolutely appalling post, it's difficult to know where to start! Yes tax payers are allowed to moan about the system because we pay into it and aren't lazy excuse making scroungers, YOU PR1CK! I have someone close to me whose just like you and it winds me up no end. Oh and the bit about people's laziness creating jobs, what's your point?! They can be as lazy as they like in their leisure time as they've EARNT their money, and that's the difference.
