True, but I can categorically confirm that it was Calland (who also scored the only Bulls try that day). My favourite Leeds Bulls game of the SL era, even though it was only a league fixture.

| Quote: tvoc "Always considered Edwards to be tough (as in being able to take the punishment coming his way) rather than being dirty himself. Of course people will point to the takle on Clyde at Wembley but that was for me largely out of character and more a desperate, mis-timed act rather than a premeditated, 'I'm going to knock his head off.''"
He did have a bit of a flair for high shots to be fair. He was also a right little niggler. Not in a particularly nasty way, more in a spiky, absolute nightmare to play against sort of way.
Motive and intent are notoriously hard to prove, but the Wembley '94 incident didn't look the most accidental to me....
Tough he most certainly was though.

Was that the match at Odsal in the nasty white and red kit when Harris got 3?
One of the niggliest, nastiest, toughest games I can remember in the post-SL days (i.e. after they switched to summer and abolished proper prop forwards with moustaches). We had a nasty pack in '98 and '99. You just don't see many really nasty packs of forwards these days.

| Sam Tomkins is the type of player you would love if he was at your club! A bit like Robbie Savage in terms of football

Worst. Example. Ever.
I'm a Man City fan. I'd be gutted if we signed Robbie Savage.

Probably explains why I struggle to recall Edwards as being a 'dirty' player. In that type of company he was like your favourite hamster.

He was no Smales, Sorenson, Dannat, Skerrett, Fairbank, Harrison, Dixon that's for sure. He probably would have been if he was bigger though.

I dunno really. Probably that I can oly remember him doing one thing that wasn't a high tackle (a rather nice diaganol kick in a Regal Trophy final at Headingley). In my mind him and Edwards are synonymous with the phrase "high tackle." I can't help it.

1140_1361875489.jpg Leeds Rhinos? 8 for you, Leeds Rhinos! You go, Leeds Rhinos.
And none for Castleford Tigers. Bye!:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_1140.jpg |

And wasn't it great? The pack would clobber teams for a bit, then Harris would move up from full-back and slice them to ribbons. Happy days.
When the RFL gave us a warning for being a bit too tough, I was so proud.

| Happy days GCH!
I also remember when we played Cas at HQ and all the "Cotton eyed joes" cheered when Sampson came on and cries of deano rang out..............................until his 1st hit up and the "Head-hunters" got him cue cries of laughter from the SS as "Deano" was helped from the field not knowing if he was on this earth or Fullers!!

And to think your hero once came within 24 hours of signing but Leeds backed out when they heard he needed an operation to remove his flat cap.
True story.

I remember seeing the rumour in the YEP at the time.

Oh he's just full of class is old Deano. I played against him a few years ago in an amateur game. He was pathetic, tried a few big hits and big runs, got embarrassed by a bunch of fat lads from York, got sinbinned and went off abusing the spectators and didnt come back on again.

23997_1287161421.jpg
Great game of rugby league. Fantastic atmosphere, Wigan were breathtaking and dominant in all areas for the first 25 minutes, coupled with us making alot of dumb mistakes, then fortunately they brought McIlorum on which helped us back into the game. I thought some of the tries we scored to get us within two we're out of this world stuff. Towards the end we had to force it a little and we had a few things go wrong, i.e Monas kick on the first for King and Solomona going off who was causing havoc. Wigan were clinical in their eventual execution of us. Proud of Wire today and gave us a little glimpse to the future. Silverwood was awful as per, but I expect no less. Tomkins is a world class player and by far the best english player in SL. Wigan are a champion side and would be a worthy winner of taking our title as challenge cup. Good luck over the next month and a bit.
:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_23997.jpg |
