I don't suppose that will deter many of their columnists. Most of the world's ills can be pinned on immigrants or single mothers if you try really, really hard.

Twickenham is nowhere near anything that's happened, and is about as likely to get hit as somewhere like Bramhope if Chapeltown was in trouble. Public order/police issues are hardly as high-priority for Quins games as they are for football either so don't see a problem with that.

I'm much closer to the "action" (about a mile from Camden, a couple of miles from Hackney, which both saw looting) and it's not exactly a warzone, just a lot of frustrated or opportunist crimes against property by the various estate gangs (of all colours, incidentally) who would do this every night as long as they knew the police were elsewhere. There's no reason to feel personally unsafe, in my opinion

I guess if the disturbances continued it would be more a question of whether the Met could still put out the minimum number of police required to cover an event of that size. I know Quins crowds are not huge, but I assume there is still a minimum, and the Met is, by all accounts, severely stretched by all this.

What has happened since appears to be nothing more than a lot of people finding a weak excuse to help themselves to things that don't belong to them. It does appear to be more mass-theft than rioting.

I spend a week in the US and I've obviously flown through a time vortex on my way back across the Atlantic. A well known poster on the board put up a facebook status earlier that seemed to irritate everyone. It was along the lines of "stealing from businesses is ok, but to cancel a football game, it's gone way too far now". He went on to say about all the people that have booked hotels and travel and wont get money back for this, so it is so unfair to them.

I can't remember the exact quote, but due to all the negative responses he got, the said comment has now been deleted. Never have I read so much sh11tte.
