I'm sure Wigan would agree.... ? Def gone backwards under MaG uire's stewardship wouldn't you say ??

Errrrr Maguire inherited that team not build it up. I seem to remember that When Noble arrived at Wigan they were very much struggling and he built a good fighting team which Maguire took over. So your statement holds no water sorry and all that

| Noble would improve Leeds from where we currently are, but he is not the "right" answer.

He did pick McGuire for GB in 2004, along with Senior and Walker. He even picked Diskin, Ward and Bailey!!!
No anti-Leeds agenda there.

| What worries me most (more than stupid errors in attack) is the dire defence. Whilst individuals miss tackles, its up to the coach to put a structure in place. Everyone complains about Wigan's defence under Maguire, but it works. Wigan do not get killed by quick PTBs because they don't allow them to happen - generally within the rules of the game. Leeds OTOH look like they have no idea what to do if a team gets a roll-on.
I wouldn't dream of sacking McDermott so early in the season - he has a lot of time to turn things around. Having said that, IF we crash and burn this year I'd hope we look at the example of Maguire at Wigan for our next appointment.

| It is too early to talk of sacking McDermott but things don't look good for Leeds. Missing Leuluai and Delaney cost us a lot of go-forward (in addition to long-term absentees Peacock, Bailey & McGuire). A bigger worry is our defence which has been poor in every game this season. This new emphasis on throwing the ball around also tends to backfire as much as resulting in points for Leeds.
I hate to say it, but Leeds under McDermott so far are beginning to look more and more like Bradford under McNamara. Let's see how Mac goes with a few more first choice props fit...

Would you swap McRae/Veivers for McDermott/Lowes if you had the option?

| It does make you wonder about what was going on behind the scenes at Headingley last year, in terms of the thought processes leading up to the selection of Brian Mac and the departures of McClennan, Poching and Cummins. The appointment looked very much like an 'old boys' selection in the vein of Daryl Powell as opposed to Smith and McClennan who actually did something prior to joining Leeds that suggested they would make it. The appointment of Lowes and Gibson in particular looked like desparation moves after it finally dawned on El Presidente that the job of Brian Mac's assistant actually wasn't particularly coveted by the top NRL assistants.

| I'd put it down to a team that were backtobacktoback champions, then suffered the inevitable slip from the top of the tree. It would be hoped that such a drop in fortunes would trigger a response to try and improve the team. At the moment, it's not looking like that. It's looking like it did when Powell got the job. A cheap option.
