| Were we ever really close to signing him? Like you said we've got Clarkson coming through. We can't have everyone's up and coming youngsters. Sorry Fev!

| Quote: AdmiralHanson "- Given that Westerman is entering the last year of his deal at Wheldon Road, FC have just coughed up £150k to buy it out, when in 9 months, they could have had him for nothing.
- Given that our pit village friends have just lost their two best players (after all, who else at Cas might Leeds remotely want ?), just what hope is there for them ... Will they move in to a new ground, with a nothing team and a no SL fanchise ? Would you buy a Leeds season ticket, if we'd just let McGuire and Sinfield go ?
- Given that Westerman is alledged to have said 'not Leeds at any price' and assuming he wanted to stay this side of the Pennines, then Hull is about the only team with the financial clout to take him on at the moment.
To be honest I am not that fussed about missing out on him. Westerman didn't have a great season last year and currently does not exceed anything we've already got. As for a replacement for Sinfield, step forward Chris Clarkson, who is going to get better and better ....'"
We would have still paid a transfer fee even if he was OOC as he is under 24.
If he was available for a much lower price I would imagine the likes of warrington, Leeds and Saints trying to sign him, then sadly I wouldn't have been confident of beating these clubs to his signiture.
Hull needed to make this signing now, it should improve our pack and attacking options aswell.

| Under the astute coaching of the guru that is Agar Westerman will really kick on...............
Sorry, I can't keep that up.
Struck me as a show pony not as good as reported who was only too ready to believe his own press.

Yup.
Maybe like Graham Holdroyd who peaked at 18.

| He's no Gareth Ellis. Wouldn't have been on my list of English players I would have liked to see in a Leeds shirt. I can't ever say I've watched him and thought he was playing well o0r standing out.
I can see why Hull might sign him though.

He could quite easily have become a Gareth Ellis though in the right environment. Infact he certainly has a better rugby brain than Ellis and better hands. So if you could have given him Ellis's strength and punishing defence, that would have been one hell of a player. Doesn't have Ellis's attitude and professionalism though which is a huge problem, he is off the boil outside the game and needed to go to a bigger club to get him back on track.
I have seen him play many times, and still believed what I have thought for last 4 years, that if he was in the right environment he would be better than Paul Sculthorpe, but can't see it now.
I hope it works out for him, but IMO the set up at Hull will not see him advance any further, as the drinking culture there is as bad as anywhere else. I personally think the lads made a big mistake, but will wait to be proved wrong.
I know for a fact that he was on Leeds radar, but they were looking for 2012 at the end of his contract next year, not now.

I agree, players like Briscoe, Moa, Tickle, Houghton and Manu haven't come on at all under Agar whereas the players who have left the 'astute coach guru' and gone onto other clubs have gone onto stardom e.g. Tommy Lee, Graham Horne and Scott Wheeldon.

Hold the phone Hanson...
They've got Mathers to look forward to! Surely he's worth the Season Ticket cost alone?

| I thought Cas would have, literally, developed him more.
Needs more build.
You know he will get that at Hull. Very big pack, seeing as he looks like Craig Hall build wise at the minute.
Hull could have spent a fortune on a turkey.........hope not.
