| I think you may both have missed the point.
Possibly by a country mile, or more.

Precisely what I think you have done, yet I have endeavoured to explain to you why I think that to be the case.

He didn't want to yesterday.
But he's very angry and far more moral than us.
But I'm still not sure why.

| The issue of the replica shirts was never questioned
(Not quite sure why Gareth quoted himself or who he is addressing now, maybe the lunch needs to wear off a bit)

Why are the replica shirts not relevant but the free T shirts from your charitable endeavour relevant?
Do you not think the principle is the same with the replica shirts and the players issue shirts, ie that there will have been a cost of production?

Then why the secrecy in declaring how much of the auction total will be donated to an un-named charity, if we are to accept that the club need to clear £37.50 in order to make a profit on the shirts then why be so coy about how much they are prepared to donate and why not state that right at the very start of the auction, the line that was hastily added on Sunday lunchtime could easily have read "All profits etc etc..." but it didn't and the new auctions still do not.
That aside I also have personal feelings about businesses making profit on the back of a charity campaign, its one thing to use a charity banner to promote and sell a mid-season shirt issue but quite another to then auction off your "charity" shirt without any further regard for that charity, lets not mince words, there was no mention of any donation from the eBay auctions until it was noted here and there is still no indication as to whether its going to be another fiver a shirt split between Macmillan and Cancer Research UK.
I feel very uneasy about supporting an organisation who is quite happy to attach themselves to a charitable trust in order for that business to generate extra income on the back of the charity, and then to totally ignore a wonderful opportunity to assist that charity further.
Of course it could always be a complete fook-up by the marketing department, we shouldn't really rule that option out completely.

| I can get on board with most of that sentiment.
The club should, at least, declare how much of any income will be donated. In fact, I have a hazy recollection that you might have a legal obligation to do so if you're going to use the charitable donation as part of your marketing. It's not specific knowledge though, just a hazy recollection which could easily as be from an episode of the Apprentice than a Legal precedent.
Where we differ is I don't see a problem with a commercial organisation profiting from the same endeavours that also profit the charity as long as they're open about it. Otherwise, commercial organisations might stop getting involved and then woe betide us if it's left to the government to actually organize and fund these many worthwhile causes
You have said you have an issue with a commercial entity benefiting from charitable efforts. That is why I brought up the replica shirts. You didn't mention it at that time and it's the same scenario.

| i see they are now advertising for us to bid for the shirts on the Leeds website
There are 7+ players on there with Delaney up to £200 -not bad if you only have to give £5 to charity

Well thats a nice resolution then.
Presumably they have been waiting for a senior management decision - kudos all round and two very deserving causes.

| Thank you everyone who commented on the pink shirt, just to confirm that all proceeds from the players shirts will be split between Cancer Research UK and Macmillan Cancer Support. In an effort to get the shirts on sale as quickly as possible and indicate that monies from the sale would be going to the good causes, initially it said that a percentage will be going to the charities. However, having got clarification from the board that they are happy for all money to go to the good causes we have now clarified this before any item has been sold. As we were unable to get clarification at the time, I felt that was a better way to go than say all of the money would go to the charities and then say it would be a percentage after people had placed their bids. A big thank you to everyone who has placed a bid so far.
