Eustace has signed a new deal at Watford. Not sure if that will be medical failure (quick turnaround to sign at Watford if so) or if he just chose to stay at Watford (which is how their club site are playing it).

Just to add Bates has just said that we've agreed a deal in principle for another player but can't yet complete the deal because the players agent is on holiday.

Whilst I'm inclined to agree rumour has it theres a player from the continent being targeted as the Becks replacement. Hopefully that's true.

Been linked with some decent players but it all has a feel of the Wilko era when we were linked with Reuben Sosa, Martin Dahlin, Tomas Skuravy etc but ended up with Frank Strandli and the equally rotund Tomas Brolin.

I'm quite happy with the signing of Paynter but still think we need someone who's proven at Championship level at least. I knew we wouldn't get Billy Sharp, any fee involved and we are out. Freebies all the way. Paynter has had one good season in league one and that's it, i hope he scores plenty but i think it's a risk to not buy anyone else upfront.

To be fair, there's still a couple of months til the start of the season - would it not be better to reserve judgements on the spending or lack of it, and strength or lack of it, at the end of the summer?? As recruits go, Schmeichel and Paynter are a pretty good start, and there's been nothing to suggest there won't be more.....

Sums up my feelings. 2 good signings, hope there's more.

I was hoping for Montgomery but we'll have to wait and see.
