| I got a phone call a few weeks ago. I said I couldn't go because I was at a wedding, which is true.
I didn't say I wouldn't go anyway because I wouldn't travel 5 mins to watch Leeds vs Wakefield let alone 5 hours, which is also true.

| Hmmm Newcastle return to the premier league and would encourage SEVEN RL matches on the hallowed turf....i think not.
Even if its out of season i would anticipate them wanting to be in step with all other clubs on ground maintainance. The PREMIER LEAGUE already is getting its knickers in a twist about groundshares where football isnt the dominant stadium force. So i dont see this being a starter on that basis either.
Me and three others are going for the weekend but each of us has noticed the reduced banter/buildup/plan making call it what you will compared to even last year.
After last year i certainly dont see anything in the stadium spec to make a return encouragable.
I am capable of walking further than ten paces to anywhere so its location isnt an issue.Unfortunately last years building site that was the city centre did a good job in diminishing the general 'big day atmo'.Similar to Cardiff you didnt see anything advertising the event.
BEEB forums also comment on the lack of discussion/interest so i too expect to see more empty seats.
I havent been privileged to get a RFL landline call. But as i get inundated with call centres trying to sell me something i dont want i never rush to answer anyway.I WAS privileged to get a RHINOS text message encouraging me to go .............to the home match against the BULLS....... as this was received 20 minutes into the game when i was in the southstand and we were playing at the time, i was 'somewhat unforgiving in my thoughts

I read that somewhere as well.
If the turn out is poor this weekend then hopefully they'll bin it.
JP's thoughts on last weeks Super Men show was interesting in his suggestion that they should have this as the season openener but perhaps at Wembley as a big launch event for the new Super League Season as opposed to in a congested middle of the season after all the games over Easter and sandwiched between the Challenge Cup.
Might generate more interest as a season opener?

dependent on the stadium, i think that JPs suggestion is a cracker. the RFL would need something that they could fill
a couple of people have raised concerns about the weather, maybe 3/4 games is too long to sit for in the cold and wet. but the idea in principal is good. especially in terms fo raising the profile of the game in london

So Wembley would be ideal as you could close the roof

| And with all the pitch problems they have a at Wembley I'm sure they'd be more than happy for 7 games in a 30 hours period.
Anyway, despite how much I dislike the Cup, it would detract from the achievement of getting there if a round of Super League was held there.

Basically, the RFL have made three half-cocked PR disasters this season.
1) Bussing the Journalists and captains to the Thames to a pre-season event nobody was bothered about
2) Soft-opening the season in snowy Wrexham
3) Going to Scotland for a weekend to play in front of an empty stadium
It says a lot about the RFL's marketing department that a battered prop-forward has a better idea of their job than they do.
