What a centre pairing that was hime & Kevin Iro (when he could be bothered to play!).'"
Innes did go to Manly, I lived just north of Manly at the time and used the Leagues club, we could openly talk to the likes of frank stanton, who loved discussing the game, and he said Innes was the best he had seen for ages & could not wait to get him over, I later attended the grand final where he scored the opening try. Can you imaginge Innes & Iro now Leeds have a dominant Pack?

He played in the Yorkshire Cup semi final in 1988 against Northern (or Hull?) at HQ. We were losing and him and Deadly Medley came off the bench in the 2nd half. Medly got a 20 minute hat-trick to save the game. IIRC, of course.'"
I remember that. Medley got man of the match as well!

My mate once wrote a stinking letter to the club about a particularly dismal performance and while sitting at home one evening had a knock on the door. There was an official from the club and Craig Innes. "So Andy, why are you so upset?"
They came in and had a cup of tea.

Ah "Cranky Frank", as his players often referred to him - although probably not to his face.

| During the same conversation, stanton told us of his verbal agreement to join Leeds, had his flight arranged, had approached players, including sterling, before he had chance to sign on the dotted line Peter Fox had the job, The rest is history.

I know, Stanton had lined his on field general Sterlo up, Fox brought 38 year old Jeff Grayshon! Leeds could have been the fore runners but decided to stick with tradition. Went from nearly appointing the coach of the Invincibles to staying up on points difference in less than 2 years.

Think Grayshon was 36 when he signed for Leeds.
Remember him getting called up for GB in 1985 when he was definitely 36 and a Leeds player.

Was the official Alf Davies or had he left by then? Alf was very much one of the "open door brigade", but you have to question if anything actually ever happened after someone went to see him...

It's not what you do, it's what others perceive you to have done.
Free customer service advice there for you.
Visits that like are cheap to give (the player and official will have been on salaries anyway) but expensive to receive.

I don't think it was Alf. My mate didn't know him, he would have known Alf. It certainly worked. I think we had that 1000 club? and he was a member so thought he was entitled to a rant, after the visit he was happy for almost two weeks!

I agree that it's a great sales trick to "give" something away that is cheap to part with, but expensive to receive, however the perception bit will almost always come unstuck at some point and (IMO) isn't that great a piece of advice. Honesty in Sales is rare, but always the best policy as its key to maintaining your integrity, and that is the thing that people respect.

| While we are on this era, does anyone else miss the late 80's early 90's.
I know we were bobbins and the biggest under acheivers rugby league has ever seen but as my first few seasons of watching TGG will always have a special place in me heart.
No Rhinos
No Band
No having to get to the Southstand gates about 3 hours before k.o.
No stewards stopping you from changing ends at h-t.
Chants of the Green Green Grass of Headingley and "We lead you all whoever you may be...." to the tune of the lord of thye dance,m instead of the moronic chants we get these days
Ahh them were t'days
