We have just been sent this e-mail at work....

We have been informed by the Police that the English Defence League plan to demonstrate in Manchester City Centre on Saturday 10th October 2009.

The English Defence League are a group of people who have attracted a wide amount of media attention, following recent events in Birmingham and Luton that led to high levels of disorder, due to them clashing with opposing groups.

Greater Manchester Police and the City Council have no powers to ban the English Defence League from the City Centre, but we have been assured they will not tolerate any level of unnaceptable behaviour or violent activity. The Police are anticipating in excess of 3000 demonstrators and they are expecting it to begin at approximately 10am.

So if you are able to avoid the City Centre next Saturday, it may be advisable to do so. Needless to say, we will be taking every precaution within our buildings to avoid any unauthorised persons gaining access.

Make of it what you will. At least it gives us a better idea of where to avoid and when.

There's one thing I don't understand about the whole EDL thing.

The link illustrates that they exist simply to demonstrate against Sharia Law and radical muslims.

But where is the threat ?

Where is the Sharia Law Party standing in the election next year, how is it going to happen without us noticing, where are the campaigners for Sharia Law to be introduced ?

There is no such threat is the answer, not in reality anyway.

Not in reality outside of any paranoid racist cretin's head - there is no need for their organisation anymore than I need to protest on the streets of Leeds this weekend about the threat from green moon-men, which of course is real inside my head and I'll fight anyone who tries to deny the fact.

Green moon men are peace loving. Its the purple moon men you want to worry about.
