| I have just got in from work and seen the tragic news on BBC ceefax. I am at a loss - probably the same feeling I had when Billy Bremner passed away. The term legend is used too easily these days - John Holmes was not only a rugby league legend he was a true gentleman and had the time of day for anyone.
My condolences to John's family at this very sad time.
God bless you John and thank you for the happy memories that you have left behind.

| When you consider the contribution made whether its statistical or the intangibles of a great character then for me that needs respecting in the TRADITIONAL way first and foremost. That demonstrates our feelings towards his memory AND towards his family(who MAY be present). They are first and foremost.
I would then happily join in spontaneous applause and displaying of our colours because he inititiated that so many times when on the pitch.
I do think the joy of what soemone brings to life should be remembered as well as the dismay at the passing.

| Quote: The Biffs Back "Wouldn't it be the ultimate mark of respect for John Holmes and his family if the one minutes silence was observed impeccably
But as soon as the whistle was blown to end this one minutes silence, that the whole ground started clapping for a further minute?
This IMO would be the ideal way to show the utmost respect for the ultimate Leeds player of all time
John Holmes was clapped throughout his career, what a way to send him off!'"
I agree totally.

| I have no problem with a minute's applause, I quite like it in fact, but as a supplement to the minute's silence, not a substitute.

| It would be nice should Leeds be successful in reaching the Grand Final if the shirts for the occasion could bear some sort of logo or design in memory of possibly the club's greatest ever player.
Maybe a number six and his name, in the same way the Barrie McDermott testimonial season shirts had a design on the sleeve?

Could we make the minute's silence even more respectful / apprecative by a 'carpet' of scarves being raised aloft across the South Stand ?'"
Wasn't able to post a photo where I was last night, but something like this during the silence ?
(With Leeds scarves, not Celtic ones of course ....)

| Quote: Swarcliffe Rhino "To stand in quiet contimplation surrounded by fans all paying their quiet respect to a true giant of the game is phenominal. To hear the flags cracking in the wind on top of the southstand and the sounds of the city in the background is fantastic. Then the wall of noise when the whistle goes to banish the silence, is just frankly amazing.'"
Enough said and very well put.

| Hopefully SKY will be able to get some footage and provide a tribute on the screen as well.

| Quote: BillyRhino "No. If you want to show respect for the memory of someone, you stand quietly in silence.
I detest the football style round of applause, which has evolved only as the result of the gormless minority being unable to behave in a civilised manner for 60 seconds.'"
Hear, hear...

| Without doubt the best and most talented player that I have ever seen in blue and amber.
Silence followed by applause would be a fitting tribute
