| Maybe this will shut Jon Wilkin up. I think that's about the best benefit.
It is interesting that only in "Sky World" does a (in the end) meaningless result between the 9th and 12th placed club in the league deserve an in depth analysis after the match.
Logically the result that really mattered was the Cats v Saints game - but everyone assumed that Cats would lose (I have no idea why when Eddie began the pre-match interview with Brian Noble by talking about how this year any result is possible - it's that kind of season). Cats had destiny in their hands so I don't understand why Sky didn't show that game? I may be being cynical, but if Saints had won last week I suspect the cameras would have been there.
In the end we got to watch the third most important game of the evening and the team that actually won the league leaders shield got Angela Powers talking through a paper cup with a long bit of string attached all the way to Hull.

| I remember the celebrations on the night we got the shield in 04 and it was something to behold
last night felt as though Gary Glitter had turned up at a kids birthday party dressed as a clown

if it had been football all 3 games would have been live, the fact sky toy with showing superleague will never change unless someone outbids them for football rights

| i agree with mr herons lip hair abvout skys choice of game. Should have been catalan vs saints with cameras at our game to show tjhe shield. Having said that i am glad it was low key because the shield is nice but unimportant and i would ratjer the players stau focused on the gf.

Agreed.
As Brain Mclennan said on Sporting Life,
"We're glad to have picked up this award but to me it looks like a lid which you stick on top of a cup. You've got to get the cup so that's what we'll try and do."

And we all know what happened at the end of the 2004 GF Leeds were Champions.
A big thanks must go to Saints for giving us a big fight for first spot but in the end you were just not good enough.
2009 the year of the Rhino.'"
In the end?
Mate we have not been good enough for half the season. The start was pretty average too given our scrappings against poor teams.
Leeds should the League this year. Miles the best team. Potter will be gone half way through next season.

That'd be a bloody big cup if it were true. Do they still play for that monstrosity in football (European cup?) my recollections of seeing it feature Emelyn 'crazy horse' Hughes so it's a while ago.

| Hey John D, how can it be meaningless when it's a measurement of how a team has performed over the whole season rather than the few weeks it takes to stage the play-offs? I think winning the Premiership is a major achievement that any team should be proud of.

If it was up to a rapidly growing number of fans, he wouldn't be here at the start of next season!

The performance that Hull KR put in against Wakey (ie a lacklustre "if we lose this we might not have to play Rhinos" performance) sums up the competition; clubs simply want to make the play-offs and get a home draw. Cas are over the moon to make the play-offs because they know that even though they finished 12-14 points behind us, they have just about as good chance of making the GF as us. The new play-off system barely gives any advantage to a club who has done well over the course of the season.

The major advantage is to the first and second placed clubs with a minor advantage to third and fourth - but to any of the clubs as a whole, and a reason why Bradfords accountant will be on suicide watch this weekend, the major advantage is of a financial nature, the scrap for eighth place is about money, nothing else.
