* Wilkin was superb
* What was the penalty against us for in the first half when the Saints player crashed into ours?'"
Think it was Ablett that pushed Wilkin so he gave it back but ref said the penalty was for offside

Interestingly, when Gilmour was all over Smith at Knowsley Road and Smith subsequently reacted, Saints won the penalty from Bent-ham for retaliation.

The penalty should always go against the player reacting in my opinion. By giving it for the initial offence the referree is conding the retaliation and allowing poor discipline to be rewarded.
Back to the original subject... Leeds failed to do the basics well. Complete your sets of six and in most cases you'll be in front on the scoreboard. Saints completed the most and won.
Burrows was targeted in defence and was over run on a couple of occasions.
Budures looked rusty, unsurprising, but did show promise.
The forwards were beaten by a stronger saints pack.
Gibson needs more game time to enable a complete assesment of him. He can't be written off after a couple of poor performances. The only way he will progress is to keep lpaying at a high standard. Not every youngster is going to be an instant world beater.
The best team won this time.

| Leeds' attack close to the opposition line is really poor considering we have effectively five or six 'international' playmakers in Sinfield, Burrow, McGuire, Diskin/Buderus and Webb. With that lot structured plays and moving the opposition defence around should be a no-brainer.
Having watched Leeds 'live' against Wigan as well, I really think we're pretty bad at setting up centres full stop.
I wouldn't have played Buderus today either.

The penalty was given for smith initially lashing out. Nothing to do with retalliation or anything else.

LEEDS RHINOS - HISTORY MAKERS-2007, 2008 and 2009 Champions
[quote="TheOtherOne":7qqvi4ts]Leeds are still the best team in the competition so if we do have to play them I would hope it's at Knowsley Road with home advantage giving us a chance to knock them out. If somehow we end up playing them at Old Trafford I can only see one outcome

No matter what it was given for it was still an awful decision.

All what you've put could apply to Watkins but he wasn't selected. Gibson is 22 (I think people forget this) and he's the finished article. It's a pity the finished article has been hampered by injuries but he was never big enough, fast enough or explosive enough even before his injuries and he's simply not going to make it at a top club. Sorry but that's the way it is unfortunately.
He's playing (I guess) because he's the best Leeds have currently available to them. As long as GH can keep counting that unspent cap money someone will be happy.

| Does nobody think the problem's we have against Saints might not rest with the players?
We were second best in every department today.
I am waiting for Bluey to do a number on Saints like Smith did throughout 2007. He hasn't come within coooeee.

No, technically it was correct, as was the decision today when Wilkin was needlessly attacked by Ablett.
Nice win for Saints on the penalty count today I suspect, which must irk Bluey after he promised a Leeds win on that score in the week.

Someone else alluded to the possibility rlhererl and he's mentioned the record before now also.
Quote: G1 "The penalty was given for smith initially lashing out. Nothing to do with retalliation or anything else.'"
Correct, Smith was deemed the instigator and Gilmore the retaliator. Truth is the instigator was actually whichever player was giving Smith the facial (either Wilkin or Gilmore) that caused him to react but that was missed by the officials.
